Makana Charters was great to work with as we rescheduled once due to rough waters. Our charter was led by Tim, Tony, and Ethan, and they were all incredibly knowledgeable about safety, history, and customer service. We were lucky to see dolphins, whales, a sea turtle, and the far edge of the coast thanks to good conditions. The sunset cruise can be chilly and all may have rain pockets, so I recommend bringing a waterproof/windbreaker jacket with you. Leave the hats at home unless they strap to your head or you’ll end up gifting it to the ocean.

The seiko. We had to keep moving the date because it was unsafe. I appreciated that they told me it was unsafe and didn’t just go out to make money. I wanted to come back alive! The seiko is a smaller boat and so it is likely rougher than the bigger boats. I ended up puking. Even in spite of all of my medicines. But I kind of expected that. I get motion sickness just swimming in the ocean. In spite of that, I am so glad I did it. Once in a lifetime opportunity. To see the other side of the island. And to see the beautiful landscapes that are prevalent in Jurassic Park. Out of this world beautiful! And I didn’t expect it but we also saw whales and dolphins! The dolphins like jumped and spun right in front of us! It was magical. I highly recommend doing this at least once in your life.

Our boat ride was incredible! The captain and his first mate were extremely knowledgeable about the island and the sea life we encountered! I would definitely do this again!

Great experience! The views were amazing. The captain managed the conditions well and gave us time to watch the dolphins and whales. Lionel was absolutely amazing- i hurt my tailbone on a different excursion and he was very attentive and accommodating. Lionel also gave us great tips for our next island adventure at Oahu! Our whole group was very happy! We highly recommend this excursion.

The crew are energetic, intuitive, and compassionate people who obviously love what they do, and have a real ability to see their customers' needs and respond with kindness and patience. The coast is beautiful, but made even more so by the personal experiences shared by the captain. The day exceeded our expectations!

We took the Na Pali Cliffs cruise yesterday from 2 to 6:30 and loved it! We were a group of eight college friends, all around 70, who are vacationing together on Kaua'i. We loved seeing the humpbacks, dolphins and occasional sea turtle as well as the spectacular cliffs themselves with their sheer rock walls, waterfalls, caves, beaches, and abandoned villages. I especially enjoyed the commentary and singing by one of the crew, a young part-Hawaiian with reddish hair, a beard, and a great singing voice -- sorry, I didn't catch his name. The screws was an absolute highlight of our week on beautiful Kaua'i!

Good tour of the Na Pali coast plus got to see a lot of whales. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Didn't snorkel as the seas were rough but got to get into the water and float around for a little bit. Winter is not the best time for seeing the coast as the seas are pretty rough and you can't get into the caves. But the whales make up for the impacts of the rough seas.

We booked an afternoon Napali coast + whale watching trip and it was the highlight of our vacation. The arrangements were easily made, and the instructions of where and when to meet were easy to follow. The ship was large enough that we were very comfortable and could see all around us. But it was also small enough, no mast, that the captain could take us into the sea caves, which was super exciting. But the best part was all of the whales, dolphins, turtle, and even flying fish that we saw. It was such an incredible trip. Because it was the afternoon cruise, we also got to see the sunset. If you can take the cruise during whale season, you have got to take this trip. It is so incredible.
