Our second time using Makana Charters! They’re the best. A few years ago we went out with A’a and his son—they were fantastic—and then this past weekend we did a winter whale watching tour with Uncle Tony and Makana and it was just as good! They’re hilarious and sarcastic and have so much knowledge of the island. 10/10 recommend them!!

We just got back from our Na Pali Coast boat tour with Makana Charters on Kauai, and it was hands-down one of the highlights of our Hawaii trip! We booked the Seiko and everything exceeded expectations. The boat was comfortable and the crew was so nice! The Na Pali Coast was beautiful. We saw whales and dolphins. The water was choppy but we were still able to go snorkeling. One honest note: usually I don’t get motion sickness but I did this trip. The ocean can get choppy! I would strongly recommend taking motion sickness pills. The crew was incredibly nice about it—they were so compassionate, checked on me right away, offered help, and made sure I was comfortable without making a big deal out of it. Super grateful for that kindness—it didn’t ruin the trip at all. If you’re visiting Kauai, do yourself a favor and book with Makana Charters. The combination of stunning scenery, incredible marine life (dolphins and whales), top-notch crew, and genuine care for passengers made this an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend—worth every penny!

Amazing experience. The crew is very talented and experienced. They make sure you are safe and you have the best possible experience. We saw so so many dolphins, a few whales along the way to Napali coast. The captain had nice stories to share about the region. I definitely recommend this. Make sure you take a thin windbreaker as it can rain on the ocean and windy sometimes.

We enjoyed our morning NaPali coast tour. We were hesitant to book with some of the negative reviews. But we wanted to leave from the small boat harbor and this was the best option. We chose thei NaPali Kai III and I’m glad we did. It was a comfortable ride, the 360 deck was great, and the bathroom was essential. I had to use it twice. We were allowed to stand and move around the boat which was great. Captain Rob, Kana, and Lionel were great. Kana’s commentary and interesting information was extremely well done and we loved hearing all he had to say. The lunch wasn’t great. The sandwich was two slices of multigrain bread with one slice of cheese smaller than the bread, two pieces of turkey (probably from Costco), one slice of tomato and one piece of lettuce. Plus a small bag of chips. They had cold drinks for everyone throughout the trip which was great. Some fruit would have been nice to go with lunch and the sandwiches could definitely be improved with a hoagie roll and more meat and cheese and veggies. But they didn’t taste bad and they filled us up enough to be adequate. As for sea caves we went partially into one and got close to another. You won’t be touring sea caves like you could on a raft. And we weren’t offered snorkeling but we did swim in the ocean which was fun. I assume sometimes they snorkel depending on conditions and time. We spent some time trying to find whales. We spent some time trying to find whales. We did see whales, dolphins, albatross, and a sea turtle from afar. There is a $20 parking fee at the boat dock so just be aware. All in all we really enjoyed the tour and we would recommend it. Oh I also wanted to mention they took the time to stop the boat and take pictures of every group up on the hull with the cathedral in the background. I thought that was a great touch and much appreciated!

Ya, the weather was dicey, it the tour was completely what I was hoping. The last half an hour was rough on the sea, but we managed to see more whales than I could have hoped for! The crew was great, the captain was wonderful. The only thing that would have made it better is if there was merchandise available on site to purchase. Excellent experience!

This boat was the way to do the coast! Makana was an amazing Captain. Loved the history behind everything and he got us so close to the coast. We saw dolphins, whales, and enjoyed the snorkeling. Lilliana and Elijah were awesome too. Would book again!

Makana Charter Napali Coast tour was excellent. The Captain and all the crew were especially nice, friendly and accommodating. Very satisfied to see the Napali coastline up close, and marine mammals as the occasion presented itself. Great tour!

This tour was amazing! We had no idea what to expect when booking online, but everything that they promised was delivered! We got to see whales, dolphins, sea turtles, and went into a few sea caves. Ending with a perfect sunset! They also gave us history facts along the way! It was truly the best experience!!! Highly recommended!

Great tour even though I got seasick but that's more about me than anything. Captain and guides were excellent and clearly knowledgeable on the water and all landmarks around the coast. Got to see many dolphins and whales as well. We had a second whale watching tour on a different island planned for the following week but cancelled that one since this one was so great, and we got to see everything we wanted. Recommended!

Our ride on the Amelia K was just terrific! We loved the trip along the Napili Coast with the angled afternoon sun revealing the fantastic forms of the rugged “cathedrals” The crew and captain were great, super fun and friendly and very helpful making the trip go smoothly. We saw breaching humpbacks, spinning dolphins, and a billy goat! Most highly recommended!
