Amazing tour and a great crew!! We were on the Leialoha and the ride was super comfortable and got into the sea caves easily (we were lucky ocean conditions were fairly calm when we went). 10/10 recommend!!

Our tour with Makana Charters & Tours was one of the highlights of our trip! We spent time with a pod of bottlenose dolphins, explored sea caves, and enjoyed some great snorkeling in crystal-clear water. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. The crew (Captain Mike, Lionel and Tony) was outstanding—friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and truly top-notch. They made the entire experience safe, fun, and unforgettable. I highly recommend Makana Charters & Tours to anyone visiting Kauai!

We had a great time using Makana Charters! Easy to deal with and thorough. Captain Ree was incredible and her First Mate was as well! The boat was big enough to accommodate 18 passengers comfortably, yet was still small enough to get into caves and up by the cliffs easily. A mostly-covered vessel was used, so people would have the option of sitting in the shade, or, could choose to sit in the front or back in the sun. Captain Ree was very knowledgable and kept us all informed of things including; our surroundings, island culture, the fish and sea life in the area, and island traditions and history. I would definitely recommend this company and hope to someday return and use them again! Mahalo!

Enjoyed this boat ride. I very much enjoyed the waves while they played Hawaiian Roller Coaster ride from Lilo and Stitch. I used the ginger Dramamine to help with sea sickness. Lots of dolphins. Crew was amazing. Jay and Jazzy were very kind, helpful and knowledgeable.

Exceptional boat tour! Crew was fantastic and entertaining. They were so great with the kids (6 and 11). It was definitely worth the money. Kids were asking to go again! For sure have everyone take Dramamine even in the summer, the waves were huge but it was never scary.

We had an amazing time on this tour. It was absolutely stunning. We got to see dolphins and sea turtles. Captain Edwin and his son were wonderful and the captain was quite skilled at maneuvering in and out of the caves. Would highly recommend this tour!!

This tour is amazing!! It was definitely our favorite thing about our visit to Kauai! We were on the Seiko II with Captain Rhi and Tony, who were fabulous in every way! The sea caves were the coolest and we also saw a ton of dolphins surrounding our boat! I was one of the unlucky souls that got sea sick unfortunately, BUT that said, I'm still extremely glad I did it and it was still the highlight of my trip! For those wondering about their own potential motion sickness (which I definitely was prior to booking as I am highly prone to it), I had motion sickness patches (non-prescription/natural) and I also took ginger pills and followed all their suggestions that they send ahead of time in their very helpful email (make sure to read that!). I didn't want anything that might make me sleepy so opted for the more natural motion sickness remedies, but perhaps would have done better if I had taken the strong stuff. Hard to say. Thankfully, I did fine for the first 4 hours and thought I was home free, but after the snorkeling and stepping back on the boat while stopped and bobbing, I immediately became sick. They were great about it and Tony tried to talk me through the ride back by giving me tips to minimize the sickness. Thanks, Tony!! Things did get better once the boat started moving again. But again, SO RECOMMEND!!!!! It's a must!!

My husband and I did the morning boat tours on our honeymoon with Captain Mike, Lionel, and Jasmine! Everything about this tour is intentional and you can feel it. Makana Charters is a family owned and Native Hawaiian run business with their ancestry that can be traced back to the 1500/1600s. Their personal stories that they share throughout the tour enriched our knowledge and history of the island. They played great classic island jams, as well as fun songs from Jurassic park, Moana, Lava (Pixar short), and Lilo & Stitch whenever we got to parts of the tour where the coast inspired these films or shot the film in the area. On the tour we saw dolphins, flying fishing, and even an eagle ray! Snorkeling gear was clean, they provided guidance on how to use the gear, and they even have floatation waist belts for those who aren’t the strongest swimmers. The area we snorkeled was beautiful. We saw different fish, turtles, and coral. Lunch is included in the trip, which was nice so you don’t have to worry about packing anything. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience and my husband and I highly recommend booking with their tour group! Side note: A tip we received from our hotel concierge for preventing seasickness is to take Dramamine the night before the tour and the morning of the tour (about 30 mins to an hour before) to help build it up in your system. My husband and I both followed this and we did NOT get seasick and were able to enjoy the tour with ease as the water can get choppy.

Highly recommend! The ocean blessed us with excellent conditions and the natural beauty of this place is awe inspiring! The crew was phenomenal, Captain Shawn and first mate Kai have spent their entire lives in and on the ocean and it was very evident. They have a wealth of historical and local knowledge that enhanced the trip, and they are great company as well. This was a priceless, lifelong memory for our family. Mahalo, Shawn and Kai!

the top tier experience, we had so much fun. captain kanas music was popping and captain david was hilarious, had the best snorkel experience on this island yet. we did the 4.5 hour tour and it was AMAZING!! 11/10!

This boat tour was amazing! The view of the coast from the water is stunning! No one had any issues with seasickness but I think we had really good water conditions with minimal waves. The crew was very kind and knowledgeable. The boat is big enough to help with waves but small enough to still fit in the caves.
