From booking to the reservation's end, Makana Charters provided an absolutely amazing experience! They lived up to their amazing awards, and I am so grateful to have come across them. When booking our family trip to Kauai, we new we wanted to take our daughter on a tour of the Na Pali Coast for her 8th birthday. My husband and I previously toured with Na Pali Riders (who we loved!) but since she was too young and it was her first boat ride, we wanted to set her up for success. We found out there were bathrooms on the boat, lunch was provided, and we would get off for a snorkel or to swim in the ocean, and we were sold. Being the person I am (a former reporter), I always have lots of questions. I texted them before booking and before the reservation with lots of questions, which they responded to within five minutes. Top tier customer service to say the least. The day of, we were able to find the facility, there was ample time for what we anticipated and, most importantly, my daughter's birthday wish came true of seeing dolphins. They even let the kids ride up front as they swam by. It was majestic, to say the least. Additionally, we saw a monk seal and a couple of turtles throughout the day, and the water was relatively calm. I was bummed we weren't able to snorkel due to the murky water, but they did stop in the ocean for a lunch/swim break. Additionally, those who were brave enough had the chance to jump off the roof of the boat. Because it was my daughter's first boat experience, after we stopped she got quite sick. The staff was INCREDIBLY ATTENTIVE to making her as comfortable as possible. Pouring cold water on her neck, ice cubes under her feet, you name it. Sometimes it's truly the little things that make a huge difference. To say the team went above and beyond is an understatement, and we wouldn't hesitate to book with Makana Charters in the future. My one minor complaint is that we didn't get to go all the way in the sea caves like you can with a smaller boat like at Na Pali Riders but for kiddos first experiences, it was truly perfect. Thank you Bri, Uncle Tony, and the amazing captain for an unbelievable experience! Recommended, a million times over.

We had a great time with Makana Charters. We enjoyed the tour and appreciated learning about the history and cultural significance of the places we visited. Conditions did not permit snorkeling (October is considered beginning of their winter season and the waves were too rough in the usual snorkeling spots). But we enjoyed a quick swim and lunch in a calm area. The staff was knowledgeable and always kept us safe. Captain Mike treated us like family so we felt super comfortable in his hands. Overall, would highly recommend this experience! If snorkeling is your selling point would recommend this experience during spring/summer months when conditions are more favorable.

Amazing tour with Lionel and Ree! Breathtaking views...dolphins, sea caves, waterfalls! Despite getting a bit seasick it was still worth every minute to witness the beauty! The crew was incredibly kind and accommodating. 100% recommend!!!

Had a great time with Captain A’alona and Kana. They took great care of us, learned everyone’s name and where we were from. So amazing to hear all the historical and personal stories from native Hawaiians. Beautiful coastline, spinner dolphins, and although a little choppy, still got a taste of the amazing caves. A little too rough for snorkeling, but the three schools of dolphins made up for it. Recently found out the word Makana means gift. Truly a gift to be able to explore the coast in this way. Thank you for allowing us into your backyard.

We had an amazing time with Makana Charters in early October! We booked this experience through Viator. The entire experience was extremely professional, we always felt safe, and the crew was great. We sailed on the Napili Kai 3, and the boat itself was spectacular. The inside portion (where we would sit and walk) was all made of foam, which made it non-slippery and very comfortable to walk on. Throughout the tour, the crew explained aspects of Kauai, the wildlife, and the many geological formations. They struck a good balance of being informative and humorous. The lunch they provided was also great. While this was a snorkeling tour, it seemed that the waters were too choppy to go snorkeling, so instead we went swimming over some calm waters. It was very refreshing and enjoyable, although it would have been nice to go snorkeling. Nevertheless, we were still able to see some dolphins, flying fish, and birds during our tour. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this tour. While it may seem a bit pricey at first, after going through the tour, I think the pricing was appropriate.

I have toured with a couple of other boat tour companies on the island and Makana Charters is definitely my favorite!!! My family and I were on the Na Pali Kai III. It was very comfortable and having a restroom was an extra plus. From the captain's impressive ability to navigate so close to the caves and waterfalls to the crew's kindness, humor, knowledge and tips, they all did a fantastic job! We saw bottlenose and spinner dolphins, along with a turtle. A quick dip and swim in the ocean, lunch, and a relaxing trip back, made for a perfect day! Well done Makana Charters! Mahalo nui loa for an amazing time!
