We really loved this tour that Jakob and Wes gave us this evening. They were so accommodating to our dietary requirements which isn’t easy in Japan but they gave us the full experience. Our small group was fun and relaxed. We were so pleased we saw the cherry blossoms at night and had a fabulous time at dinner as well.

Great tour and we enjoyed hanging out with the rest of the small group as well! The meal was great too and I say this having eaten at many other great restaurants in Japan. Yoshiko was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and approachable. In terms of constructive feedback we could have done with fewer group photos. Also, every tour we’ve had in Japan led by a Japanese guide has been a bit difficult to understand because of the accent and this one was no exception. Can’t complain about that too much as I only know 3 words in Japanese 😂

We had a wonderful time with our tour guide Ana Maria who filled us with so many delicious treats that we would never have even thought to try. Ana had an abundance of knowledge about the food, the market, temple and Kyoto area that she warmly and passionately shared with us. Her smile was infectious and her personality was open to teasing by my husband. Both my husband and I had such a great time that we absolutely have to recommend it with 5 stars. Realistically, there should be 4.5 stars. Book this tour with Arigato tours and everything was done professionally. The food tour leader whose name is Alex, Was very personable and professional and accommodated the guests’ request. We did four sit down, establishments in totally different areas. The first one was the most memorable with lots of history and culture, and the choice of the Izataki food was great since he knew the owners. The establishment had great food and a selection of beverages and/or drinks. We loved the atmosphere of this tiny seven seat bar RESTAURANT. after there we went to Ramen noodle place down in the area of bright neon lights. The Ramen establishment offered a decent dish of food with different flavor. However, it felt like we were under fluorescent tubes. The atmosphere lacked any atmosphere other than a basic diner with barstools attached to the floor. We then proceeded to an another area having sushi. Alex was great and explaining the correct manner of eating sushi. Here we were slightly disappointed in that the food was basic sushi items found anywhere in the world Or grocery store. The establishment did not offer much in atmosphere since it was also with bright lights. Then, lastly, Alex took us to an area Where we finally ended up in a karaoke bar. We were apprehensive at first, but due to its location, history, cultural Aspects and overall feelings of a fun area, we went in and had a nice drink with people singing karaoke. The best part of the trip was having Alex as a Knowledgeable, food, tour guide, and his knowledge of the local different areas was phenomenal. We enjoyed the store very much. We heard about it from other friends initially and confirm that we have the same feelings.. Make this a stop for yourself and ask for Alex for a great tour.

We, a family of 4 adults and 2 children experienced a most lively, informative and fun time with Jacob on our food tour in Shibuya on March 17!! Jacob taught us the history of specific dishes, how to eat them properly, and engaged the children in preparing some of them! Jacob is highly knowledgeable in Japanese culture and provided a thoroughly delightful afternoon! I highly recommend him to anyone traveling to Japan!!

Tokyo is a city that awakens early, and nowhere is this more apparent than at Tsukiji Market. Once home to the world’s largest fish market, Tsukiji remains a vibrant hub of culinary delights, where the scent of grilled seafood mingles with the sharp tang of wasabi. Our food tour with Arigato Travel began at a cozy coffee shop near Tsukiji Market, where we met our guide, Jacob, along with the other members of our intimate five-person group. To kick off the morning, we sipped on a seasonal sakura latte, a subtly floral and creamy drink that set the tone for the day ahead. From there, we strolled through the Outer Market, where Jacob gave us a brief but fascinating history of Tsukiji. Originally established in 1935, the market was the beating heart of Tokyo’s seafood trade until the wholesale operations relocated to Toyosu in 2018. Despite this shift, Tsukiji remains an essential stop for food lovers, with over 65 fish vendors and countless specialty food stalls still thriving in the area. As we entered the market, the first thing that struck us was the sheer vibrancy—the air was filled with the sizzle of grills, the rich aroma of soy sauce, and the chatter of vendors expertly slicing fresh fish. For our first sit-down meal, Jacob led us down an unassuming alleyway to a small, family-run restaurant. It was the kind of place you’d never find on your own, but it was exactly where we wanted to be. The five of us squeezed around a table and shared a spread of crab innards, grilled fish, and intestine soup—dishes that may not be for the faint of heart, but were deeply flavorful and incredibly fresh. It was clear from the start that this tour was made for adventurous eaters. Jacob then took us deeper into the market, where he hand-selected ingredients for our second sit-down meal. Watching him navigate the stalls with precision and expertise was mesmerizing—he knew exactly where to find the best uni (sea urchin), eel, puffer fish, toro (fatty tuna), ikura (salmon roe), and buri (yellowtail). It was like watching a chef curate the perfect meal in real time. With our seafood treasures in hand, we made our way to a nearby rooftop, where we set up for a DIY chirashi (scattered sushi) picnic. We each got to assemble our own bowls, layering silky slices of fish over fluffy rice, topping them with fresh wasabi and soy sauce. The combination of the breathtaking Tokyo skyline and the unbelievably fresh seafood made for an unforgettable experience. We ended our rooftop meal with the sweetest strawberries I’ve ever tasted—a simple but perfect palate cleanser. No Japanese food tour is complete without dessert. Our final stop was at a taiyaki stall, where we indulged in freshly made fish-shaped cakes filled with sweet red bean paste and custard. Crispy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside—it was the perfect way to end our journey through Tsukiji. If you’re visiting Tokyo and want an authentic, immersive, and delicious way to experience Tsukiji, I can’t recommend Arigato Travel’s Classic Tsukiji Breakfast Tour enough. From the expertly curated food stops to the deep cultural insights, this tour is a food lover’s dream. Just make sure to come hungry—this is one market experience you won’t want to miss!
