⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Unforgettable Golden Gai Experience with Jacob!

We had the absolute best time on our Golden Gai tour with Jacob from Arigato Japan! From the very first moment, Jacob was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and personable — the kind of guide who instantly makes you feel comfortable and excited to explore. His deep understanding of Tokyo’s nightlife, culture, and history brought the streets of Shinjuku to life. At every stop, Jacob offered great suggestions and fascinating insights that made the experience far richer than we could have ever managed on our own. Whether he was explaining the unique culture of Golden Gai’s tiny bars, introducing us to hidden gems, or sharing stories about the neighborhood’s creative past, Jacob made every moment engaging and memorable. It’s rare to meet a guide who balances professionalism with such warmth and genuine enthusiasm. This tour was one of the highlights of our time in Tokyo, and we can’t recommend Jacob and Arigato Japan highly enough!

Underwhelming tour

We were kind of underwhelmed by this food tour. We didn't eat anything that blew us away. In particular, I was surprised we didn't eat any sushi. Some of the food we ate actually gave me a terrible stomach ache. It was pretty expensive and I didn't feel it was worth the money.

Lovely guide, friendly group, amazing food!

Our guide Natsumi was lovely, gentle, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and history, and most importantly the food! Small group of like minded people, by the end we were all chatting happily and sharing travel stories (and comparing pet photos). Our favourite meal was the Tako-yaki, we went for more the next day. Delicious. The tour included a stop at a local knife shop for a demonstration, it totally won me over and I went back the next day. I'm now a happy and proud owner of a beautiful chefs knife, which I can't wait to try out.

Kentaro was an amazing guide and a very nice man. He brought us to great food spots and we finished in an amazing restaurant that we ended up returning to again twice more because we loved it so much. Kentaro was extremely knowledgeable about the food but also about the area, we learned a lot of cool info. Thank you Kentaro!

Great way to taste Osaka

My wife and I took the tour with Kentaro as the very first the thing we did in Osaka. I could not recommend the tour more, especially to kick off the Osaka experience. Kentaro was brilliant, showing us a diverse range of restaurants and foods, as well as walking is through the area, explaining the history and culture of Osaka and being great fun along the way!

Great food!

First day in Japan and decided to do this food tour instead of joining friends at Disney Japan. It was wonderful getting to know the area and getting a wonderful introduction to Japanese food. Lots of good information was given on the tour.

Fun and fantastic food!

What a fabulous and fun food tour! Daniel, our guide was so knowledgable about the Shibuya area, and always gave us a detailed background to the food we were eating, the places we were seeing and it was a good variety. A lot of food was eaten! But it was all delicious and he was sure to accommodate any special food likes and dislikes. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for some of the best little hidden eateries in Shibuya and learning more about the area. Thank you Daniel for a fantastic evening!

Our guide was Daniel and he was spectacular. He was engaging, thoughtful, flexible and had great judgement in keeping us (a v jet lagged family) moving along. The places we visited were delicious and had great variety showing us the truth breadth of Japanese cuisine.

Went on the Golden Gai Food Tour. Had an awesome guide - Daniel. Learned more about the Shinjuku District than what meets the eye. He gave us the history of the various places - how they evolved to what they are today. The food was GREAT - the ramen was to die for. Can’t say enough good things about our experience. If we could give 6 stars! The Arigato Travel team is highly recommended if you truly want to experience Japan from the lenses of a local. Despite peak season starting, our daily guide was curated to avoid the crowds and we got full immersion to the wonders Japan has to offer on history, culture, respect for tradition, delicious season food and appreciation for the land. The local team, from concierges to tour guides, were key for us to take advantage of our days and feel supported with every detail. Reflecting on our 17 days, the team curated it with so much attention to detail to the point where we started with Japanese style rooms and food and ended with Western style accommodation to help transition back home, as well as starting with the busy main cities to finish with the serene Kumano Kodo and Miyakojima for a relaxing tone. Hands down what you should invest in if you want to travel to Japan!! We look forward to going back in a few years with our daughters and lean again on the team!

Masa was a kind, patient, and affable tour guide who introduced us to some wonderful sake breweries and local favorite restaurants. Highly recommended if you have any interest in how sake is made or want to try a few with a knowledgeable guide and translator (especially the unique Hiroshima brews with their special soft mountain water).

Fun and Food in Osaka

We had an excellent time, tried lots of different Japanese food we wouldn’t have done otherwise and went to some great restaurants. Melissa was good fun and very informative. We highly recommend this tour.

Scrumptious Shibuya Food Tour

This tour gave us a taste of different Japanese foods in various establishments. Our guide Saika was very knowledgeable and made the tour a memorable experience. We definitely felt that the places we stopped were not the usual tourist spots and that it gave us a very authentic experience. Highlights included a stand up sushi restaurant as well as an Izakaya with phenomenal chicken wings.

Einmalig und durchaus weiter zu empfehlen

Wir hatten die Führung mit Diante Folge . Er hat uns sehr schöne Plätze gezeigt und alles sehr gut erklärt. Seine lustige Art hat uns einen tollen Abend bereitet. Auch seine kleinen Geschenke waren sehr nett. Ab und an musste er in seinem Sprechtempo gebremst werden, dass diejenigen, die nicht so fit sind in Englisch, folgen könnten. Die Speisen waren auch alle hervorragend. Vielen Dank

Highly recommend this tour, our guide Francois took us to 5 different stops on a Friday evening to experience the Shinbashi nightlife alongside the local salarymen (and ladies). Despite skipping lunch we were very full by the end, plenty of food and drink! Our guide gave us lots of useful facts and etiquette advice etc

Our guide Sandra was fun and very flexible. She imediately adapted the tour to our preferences (more veg) while also taking account of our daughter's food intolerances. Everything she ordered was delicious. We would certainly recommend this tour. Despite the fact that it came at the end of our trip and we were afraid we wouldn't experience anything new, she managed to surprise us with her food choices!
