Food tours are a great way to learn a bit about the city and experience quality local food. Wes gave us a fantastic tour in the Ginza area of Tokyo stopping at some fantastic venues and sharing interesting insight into local culture. Highly recommended.

Hiro was the best! We’ve been on several tours during our time in Japan. He was hands down the most personable and knowledgeable guide we’ve had. We explored the city and visited 4 authentic (non touristy) establishments. I highly recommend requesting Hiro if you can.

Wonderful Hiroshima Food Tour with Olivia.

Olivia, our wonderful guide, showed us a side of Hiroshima that we did not even know existed. She was friendly, highly knowledgeable and really happy to answer any of our questions. We had a wonderful couple of hours in her company and learnt so much and we ate too much but it was so worth it.

I booked the Sunset Asakusa Tasting Dinner Tour with Arigato Travel during a recent global summit in Tokyo, and it was a highlight of the trip. We visited two local restaurants with fantastic food, learned a lot about Japanese dining etiquette, and got insightful background on the history and culture of the Asakusa neighborhood. We also stopped at Senso-ji Shrine, where the guides introduced us to the omikuji (fortune telling) tradition — a really thoughtful touch. The two guides were knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely personable. The whole experience was seamless and full of meaningful details that you wouldn’t get on your own. Highly recommend Arigato Travel if you want an authentic and enriching Tokyo food experience.

We really enjoyed the tour. Wesley is a great guide, very friendly, knowledgable, and fun. The food stops were so much more than tasting the delicious food, so interesting to learn about the stories of the dishes coming to the table, the places, and their origins. Experiencing the tea tasting at a small tea shop made us aware that appreciation of the tea culture needs to be nurtured, especially among the younger generations. Overall it was a great experience. We highly recommend the tour!

Casual Gion (Kyoto) food tour

We did the Gion (Kyoto) food tour. It was great to meet our guide Hiro, a lifelong Kyoto resident. He took us around the historic Gion district and showed us lots of things we wouldn’t have understood by ourselves, for example a notice board with the lesson timetable for the Maiko (apprentice Geisha). We had 5 stops for food and drinks, including traditional local sweets and sake. A great way of combing both sightseeing and eating/drinking. Hiro was generous with his time and a great guide.

Tsukiji Breakfast Tour

A wonderful morning exploration of the outer fish market with insightful commentary on the offerings and discerning purchases. At the end we settled at a spot in the food court where we feasted off those purchases in style. Along the way we visited an interesting neighborhood shrine that protect this “filled” area from inundation by water."

All-inclusive local nightlife tour

Went on a Friday evening with guide Hannah and a small group of other travelers from all over. The drinks were great, the food was great (though a small handful of items perhaps considered adventurous for people used to Western food. I tried them and liked them, and Hannah made sure to order plenty of other food for those who weren’t as keen to try). First we went to a wine and beer bar with unlimited drinks and tasty small bites, then to a traditional izakaya where many salarymen were already winding down after a long work day, allowing us to experience the after-work culture of Japan. After, we went to a sake tasting and lastly, we enjoyed a hot bowl of ramen that was the perfect end to the tour. On the way back to the station, Hannah was nice enough to buy us dessert from a nearby shop. She is an excellent guide, as you could tell she knew her food, drinks, and the culture of what we experienced on the tour. Tip: get to the meeting point at least 15 minutes early to find the meeting landmark. It’s usually visible directly in front of the Hibiya/West Exit, but when I went there was a pop up market blocking it from view, so I was scrambling around trying to find it.

This is the best food tour! Sae who was our guide was absolutely amazing. We leaned so much about Japanese cuisine and culture. This was one of our best nights in Japan and will definitely do it again when we come back!!

An amazing variety of unexpected flavours - both food and drink - and Ethan really went above & beyond to give the group insight into the local area, what we were sampling, and more general Japanese culture. I will book more Arigato tours on the basis of how good this was - 5 stars Ethan!

Tsujiki is a busy, chaotic and lively area. Having our guide was so helpful and informative. Be bold be brave - the food is oishi desu.

Kentaro (Ken) led us through streets and alleyways Osaka for 3 hours, sharing history and local facts, on our way to 4 dining experiences. We were a group of 6 fussy eaters from vegetarian to carnivore and issues in between and Ken managed to feed us all. Laughing with us as we tried new things. He even bought me training chopsticks🤣🤣🤣. We all liked a roasted sesame dressing, so bought each couple a bottle along the way. GREAT TIME, thoroughly recommend Ken @ Arigato Travel

Great Tokyo food tour

Excellent Kyoto food tour with our very knowledgeable guide Hiro. We did this tour the first night we arrived in Kyoto and it was an excellent introduction to the city. Thanks to Hiro we go a good understanding of the history and culture of Kyoto as well as it’s excellent food. We did a Tokyo food tour with Arigato Travel and both were excellent experiences and allowed me and my wife to see the cities in ways we wouldn’t have otherwise. Thanks, Sean
