The Hues and Colours of Yangon

Summary

Get picked up in the morning from your Yangon accommodations. You’ll transfer from there to Sule Pagoda, where you’ll begin your Yangon excursion. Learn about the 2,000 year-old history of this ancient Buddhist site, surrounded on all sides by government buildings. Visible just nearby are the High Court, City Hall, and the independence monument in Mahabandoola Park. The park is known as a popular evening hangout spot for local families and the city’s younger residents. Continue to Yangon’s Reclining Buddha at Chauk Htat Gyi. This massive religious statue is topped with a crown adorned with precious jewels. Proceed from there to Karaweik Hall, where you can take pictures with a replica of traditional Burmese royal boat, and then to Kandawgyi Lake. You’ll then have time to do some shopping during a stop at Bogyoke Market, also known as Scott’s Market (closed on public holidays and Mondays), offering one of the largest selections of handicrafts in all of Myanmar. Take a break around mid-day for an included lunch, before visiting a selection of Yangon’s top Buddhist monuments. Stop by the Kaba Aye Pagoda (also known as World Peace Pagoda), the visually striking Botataung Pagoda, and one of the oldest Chinese temples in Yangon. You’ll also make visits to the 26-foot (8-meter) tall Golden Lion Throne and the Mandalay Royal Regalia found at the National Museum of Myanmar (not open on Mondays or public holidays). Cap off your in-depth exploration of Yangon by visiting one of its most famous landmarks, Shwedagon Pagoda. Marvel at the gold-shrouded exterior of this 326-foot (98-meter) tall Buddhist stupa, learning about its initial construction more than 2,500 years ago and its important position in the Burmese Buddhist religious traditions. You’ll end the day after your visit with a drop-off back at your Yangon accommodations. Please note: Proper attire (trousers and covered shoulders) is required to enter most of Yangon's pagodas. Most of the city's religious sites also require visitors to take off shoes during visits, so easy slip-on, slip-off, shoes are encouraged.
