Why take this tour?

Discover in a unique way what is perhaps one of the most colorful and famous steps in the world. Unlike many others who just stop to take a picture, get insights from Romario, a young Carioca boy that goes out of his way to tell you the story of the Santa Teresa neighborhood and the artist Jorge Selaron, who decorated the unique steps. As you climb the stairs, your narrator will help you spot some of the unique tiles that deserve a closer look. You will also discover the historical background of the Morro do Desterro , the St Teresa convent that was built in 1750, and the tale of the old tram. Your tour will pass by the Museum of the Ruinas. Even though you won't enter, you will learn some of its stories and will be able to see the painting on the wall of Joao Barbosa. Your walk will end in front of the museum of Chacara do Ceu, as you admire the beautiful sculptures decorating its façade.
