DAY 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1350 m/4,429 ft.)    You know you’re getting close to Kathmandu as you look out the window of your airplane and the land seems to suddenly rise beneath you. The Himalayas were created by two tectonic plates colliding, pushing each other upwards. The plane lands and you disembark into the beautiful land of Nepal. Once you’ve passed through the airport, you will meet your representative of Himalayan Planet Adventures. Travel by private car to your hotel where you can freshen up from your long journey. Later, meet with your guide and the staff at Himalayan Planet Adventures for an orientation about your trip into the Langtang region. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner and cultural program with your guide and friends from Himalayan Planet Adventures.   Elevation: (4,592 ft / 1,400 m)                     DAY 2: Touring the Kathmandu Valley    Before journeying anywhere in the country, it is important to take time to discover the unique culture of this mystical land. The best way is to take a day and tour the Kathmandu Valley. Today we will explore three of the seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This will include the most holy site of Pashupatinath. In this place you will find 490 Hindu temples and is one of the most sacred sites in all of Hinduism. There are Sadhus (Hindu holy men) teaching and praying. From there, go to Boudhanath, the largest Buddhist Stupa in all of Asia. Here you will find the largest community of Tibetan refugees as they worship the Lord Buddha. In the afternoon you will travel to the ancient city of Bhaktapur. The entire city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the old royal palace and amazing temples. The carvings are exquisite! Return in the evening to your hotel to prepare for tomorrow’s journey.   Distance: 37.4 km Duration: Max. 7 hrs Visiting places: 3 World heritage sites   DAY 3: Drive to Syabru Besi (1460 m/4,790 ft)    Today we head north to reach our destination of Syabru Besi. The journey will follow along the Trisuli River and then join the Bhote Koshi River. We can see the mountains as we move north. While not rising much in elevation today, we feel the mountains closing in on our position as we make our way north through the valleys. We will enter a corner of Langtang National Park. Syabru Besi is a narrow village on western bank of the Bhote Koshi River where we will spend the night. Travel time is 6 – 7 hours.   Elevation: (4,790 ft / 1,460 m) Distance: (122 km)  Duration: (9 hrs)   DAY 4: Trek to Lama Hotel (2560 m/8,399 ft)   Today we cross the Bhote Koshi River to follow along the Langtang Khola (river). We will rise in elevation approximately 1120 meters (3,675 ft). The first three hours is through dense forest. It takes us around 3 hours to reach the village of Bamboo. Here the ground rises sharply and we’ll spend the next four hours gaining in elevation to reach Lama Hotel. Total trekking time is around seven hours. We will spend the night at Lama Hotel.   Elevation: (8,399 ft / 2,560 m) Distance: (11.2 km)  Duration: (5 hrs)   DAY 5: Trek to Mundu (3594 m/11,791 ft)    We are finding a new route today as we trek past the old village of Langtang. Since the earthquake, the village was moved from its old location to the top of the hill. We’ll see how powerful the 2015 earthquake was that destroyed this village. The good news is that Nepal only experiences a major earthquake about every 75 years, so we can relax.  The views along the way are fabulous. We can look down into the well-watered green Langtang Valley or upwards at the snowcapped peaks. It’s a great day for trekking! It takes us about 4 – 5 hours to reach the village of Mundu.   Elevation: (11,791 ft / 3,594 m) Distance: (14.6 km)  Duration: (7 hrs)   DAY 6: Trek to Kyanjin Gumba    Today we reach Kyanjin Gumba, a Buddhist monastery high in the Langtang Mountains. We’ll spend two nights here and explore the area. We have passed the tree line. The vegetation is grasses and juniper bushes. This allows us to have a 360° panoramic view of the mountains as well as the valley below. It takes us about 3 – 4 hours to reach Kyanjin Gumba.   Elevation: (12,795 ft / 3,900 m) Distance: (5.7 km)  Duration: (3 hrs)   DAY 7: Explore Langtang area   We can leave our packs behind as we take our cameras and travel around the area. We can explore Langshisha Kharka, a summer pasture ground for amazing views. Or if we feel more ambitions, hike to the top of Cherko RI. This is a trekking peak (4984 m/16,352 ft) which features stunning views of the Langtang Mountains. We can even peer into neighboring Tibet. The views are stunning, no matter which way we hike. In the evening you will return to Kyanjin Gumba for the night.   DAY 8: Trek to Lama Hotel    We start the return trek today as we come down the mountain. We pass some of the previous places we’ve stayed to reach Lama Hotel. It is a great view along the way as we pass by farms that are terraced into the mountain sides. We’ll spend a night at Lama Hotel. Trekking time is 6 – 7 hours.   Distance: (20.3 km)  Duration: (10 hrs)   DAY 9: Trek to Syabru Besi    This is our final day of trekking. We are dropping below the timber line and back into lush forests. We cross the Bhote Koshi to reach our hotel for the night. Trekking time is 6 – 7 hours.   DAY 10: Return to Kathmandu    There is only one route to and from Langtang, and our bus journey takes us back the way we came.  It’s a 7 – 8 hour journey back to the capital city of Nepal. Tonight rest in your hotel and enjoy a hot shower.   DAY 11: Free Day    It's your day to enjoy Kathmandu. Some choose to rest from their trek while others will take advantage of the time to explore more of the Kathmandu Valley. There are four more UNESCO World Heritage Sites to explore plus many hidden sites. It is said there are over 1000 temples alone in the Kathmandu Valley. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your guide, porter and staff of Himalayan Planet Adventures.    DAY 12: Departure    Today we leave the magical land of Nepal for your next destination. Of course, you can always extend your Himalayan Holiday. You can also plan a return trip, as so many visitors do.
