Full Description
  • Stand in the spot where gladiators once clashed swords and battles raged before throngs of spectators as you visit the mighty Colosseum and get special access to the arena floor. Afterward, learn what daily life was like in ancient Rome as you walk in the footsteps of everyday citizens among the ruins of the Roman Forum.
  • Meet your guide near the formidable hulk of the Colosseum, the gigantic arena that drew Romans of all walks of life to watch violent fights between gladiators and beasts. Bypass the crowds and head straight inside, entering the Colosseum through a special gate once used by gladiators themselves. Walk right onto the arena floor—an area not usually accessible to the public—and learn about the harrowing events that took place here for entertainment's sake centuries ago.
  • Spend a full hour exploring the rest of the Colosseum, from the ground floor up to the second tier, where you can see the Roman Forum from a distance before making your way across to Palatine Hill. You'll also get ahead of the crowds at this storied collection of ruins and listen to your guide rebuild ancient Rome from the ground up through captivating stories. Hear tales of war, politics, and betrayal, and get introduced to some of the ancient world's larger-than-life characters as you roam around the markets, roads, and temples where the empire's citizens once lived, played, and prayed.

Description
  • From August 6th, all Italy sites we visit will require clients and guides alike to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test completed within 48 hours prior to entry. They will also require a legal form of ID matching the vaccination or test results. This does not apply to children under 12. You can read more about it here.
  • Most people see the Colosseum as spectators, gazing down at the arena floor from the stands. On this special access Colosseum tour, you'll enter the great arena as the combatants once did, through the Gladiator's Gate. Once inside, you'll head straight to the reconstructed arena floor, where you'll get a 360-degree view of history's greatest sports stadium. This area is closed to the public, offering a fantastic respite from the crowds on busy summer days. Take some space to soak it all in as your guide regails you with stories of blood sports and death sentences, once played out right where you are standing.
  • N.B., Because of the very special access on this tour you are REQUIRED to bring an ID with you. Please don't forget, as this can hold up the tour and may result in you having to miss parts.
  • From there you'll enjoy a luxury that ancient gladiators didn't have. You'll go up into the stands to learn the full story of this colossal structure, from how it was built to how it declined and was eventually used for all sorts of strange things (cattle farming, anyone?).
  • To understand the empire that created this amazing stage for organized violence, you'll also explore the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill with skip-the-line access. At the Roman Forum your guide will show you the palaces, government buildings, temples, and monuments that made up the heart of Ancient Rome. Further uphill, the Palatine Hill was the birthplace of Rome, and is the perfect place to discover its origins.
  • With your guide's stories, facts, and insights for context, you'll be immersed in the history and lore of ancient Rome and get a vivid picture of one of the greatest civilizations ever known.

Description Summary
  • The first time you see the Colosseum should be special and on this tour, it is. With exclusive access, you'll enter through the Gladiator's Gate and walk directly onto the arena floor. Here, in the heart of the Colosseum, you'll be removed from the crowds for the most impressive view of the stalls where Emperors and Ancient Roman spectators once cheered.
  • Don’t see the Colosseum like a tourist, queuing for ages to access even the skip the line group entrance. See it like the gladiators did as you and your expert guide avoid any lines and enter through the side gate once used by warriors entering the ring. From there you’ll have special access to the arena floor, where you’ll learn the blood-drenched stories of horror and heroism that took place right where you’re standing. Afterwards you’ll head out for a comprehensive tour of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill that will bring Ancient Rome to life.

  • Step off the tourist track in the Colosseum and get a gladiator’s-eye-view by using their special entrance and stepping onto the normally off-limits arena floor. You can’t get closer to the action than this.
  • The arena floor is where people actually fought and died in the Colosseum. While most visitors only ever see it from the stands, you’ll bypass long, general entrance lines and step directly onto it via the special Gladiators Gate. As you marvel at the great amphitheater around you, your expert guide will tell stories to transport back nearly 2,000 years, when vicious blood sports were the most popular form of entertainment in Rome.
  • During your tour you’ll also explore the rest of the Colosseum, including the first floor and Roman Forum overlook. Then you’ll head into the Roman Forum and the Palatine hill to learn the wider history of Imperial Rome. Through the stories and anecdotes of your expert guide, the ruins will come to life and you’ll have no problem imagining the heyday of this incredible civilization.
  • Our fully-licensed, expert guides are the best in the business. Far from giving you rote history lessons, they pull you into the epic story of Rome and allow you to relive it with them, one step at a time.

Description
  • Step off the tourist track in the Colosseum and get a gladiator’s-eye-view by using their special entrance and stepping onto the normally off-limits arena floor. You can’t get closer to the action than this.
  • The arena floor is where people actually fought and died in the Colosseum. While most visitors only ever see it from the stands, you’ll bypass long, general entrance lines and step directly onto it via the special Gladiator’s Gate.
