  • This self-guided audio walking tour covers Carmel-by-the-Sea’s three mission areas: Mission Ranch, Carmel Mission Basilica, and the Mission Trail Nature Preserve.
  • Our tour begins and ends at the Mission Ranch Hotel, owned by actor and former mayor of Carmel, Clint Eastwood. From there, we’ll wind our way through the southern end of this charming village of Carmel-by-the-Sea to the Mission Basilica, and then on to the Mission Trail Nature Preserve. In the Preserve we will explore trails and find the trail that leads to Flanders Mansion and then head back to Mission Ranch. Along the way you will learn about early local California and Carmel history, view Carmel’s different architectural styles, from mission to modern, and hear stories about some of its interesting residents.
  • On this tour, you’ll hear about:
  • • Early Native American history
  • • The founders of Carmel-by-the-Sea, and its origins
  • • The story of how the Carmel Mission came to be
  • • Famous Carmel houses and hotels
  • • A handful of Carmel’s most interesting residents
  • • Mission Trail Park’s beginnings, as well as the habitats and flora found there today
  • This two-hour walking tour is two miles long.
  • Please note: This tour does not include a visit to the interior of the Mission Basilica. To access the Basilica, its five museums, cemetery and courtyard grounds, purchase a ticket inside the Gift Store.
  • On this self guided audio tour, I’ll show you why Milan has more to offer than design fairs and fashion houses. We’ll start at the city’s cathedral, which is its most famous landmark, but from there I’ll help you seek out its lesser-known corners. You’ll meet despots from the Middle Ages, colourful characters from the Renaissance and the odd saint along the way. The Grim Reaper puts in an appearance too. (But not for long.) 
  • You’ll also hear about
  • • Milan’s very own Lady Liberty and Loch Ness Monster 
  • • A duke that got his come-uppance 
  • • A collection of rattling old bones that was transformed into works of art 
  • • Madonnas with dirty faces
