  •
  • Your day begins in central Lisbon, where you'll meet up with your guide and small group before hopping aboard a train for a quick journey out to Belem. Once there, you'll step into the breathtaking Jerónimos Monastery to explore the cloister, an excellent example of Portugal’s distinctive Manueline architecture. Walk the same paths as sailors and explorers of centuries past, who often spent the night before their journey at this seaside sanctuary.
  • Next, your expert guide will share even more stories of the Portuguese Age of Discoveries as you sink your teeth into a classic local snack: the original custard tarts at the first bakery to ever produce them.
  •
  • From there, you’ll head off to see some of the most important sights in the Belém neighborhood, including the Monument of the Discoveries and Belém Tower. As the starting point for many a Portuguese ship departing for far-flung lands, today it’s a living homage to this period of national history.
  • Time to sit back and relax for a bit. You’ll head to the waterfront and board a boat for a scenic cruise along the Tagus Estuary to the city center. Enjoy unforgettable views from the water as you pass under the 25th of April Bridge and beside the towering Cristo Rei monument.
  •
  • After disembarking from the boat, you'll break for lunch in the city center. Your guide will have plenty of recommendations to suit all tastes and budgets so you can be sure to find a delicious option that works for you
  • In the afternoon, your guide will lead you on a stroll through Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood. With its winding streets and hidden alleyways, this charming area is difficult to visit on your own—so luckily you’ve got a local expert to show you the way.
  • Last but certainly not least, you'll part ways from your guide and small group in front of one final Lisbon monument: the entrance to the São Jorge Castle. You're welcome to head inside to explore the castle on your own (not included in the tour), or continue getting lost in the picturesque streets of Alfama.

Description
Your guide will have plenty of recommendations to suit all tastes and budgets so you can be sure to find a delicious option that works for you.

Once there, you'll step into the breathtaking Jerónimos Monastery to explore the cloister, an excellent example of Portugal’s distinctive Manueline architecture. Walk the same paths as sailors and explorers of centuries past, who often spent the night before their journey at this seaside sanctuary.
  •
  • Next, your expert guide will share even more stories of the Portuguese Age of Discoveries as you sink your teeth into a classic local snack: the original custard tarts at the first bakery to ever produce them.
  •
  • From there, you’ll head off to see some of the most important sights in the Belém neighborhood, including the Monument of the Discoveries and Belém Tower. As the starting point for many a Portuguese ship departing for far-flung lands, today it’s a living homage to this period of national history.
  •
  • Time to sit back and relax for a bit. You’ll head to the waterfront and board a boat for a scenic cruise along the Tagus Estuary to the city center. Enjoy unforgettable views from the water as you pass under the 25th of April Bridge and beside the towering Cristo Rei monument.
  •
  • After disembarking from the boat, you'll break for lunch in the city center. Your guide will have plenty of recommendations to suit all tastes and budgets so you can be sure to find a delicious option that works for you.
  •
  • In the afternoon, your guide will lead you on a stroll through the central Baixa and Chiado neighborhoods. You’ll hear the story of the infamous 1755 earthquake and see how the city’s architecture was restored following the disaster.
  •
  • Your next stop is the famous Santa Justa Lift, where lines can stretch for hours. You’ll step into the famous structure via a secret access point—bypassing the long lines—and marvel at the stunning panoramic views from the top.
  •
  • After a stop at another miradouro for a different (yet equally gorgeous) view of Lisbon, you’ll head into Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood. With its winding streets and hidden alleyways, this charming area is difficult to visit on your own—so luckily you’ve got a local expert to show you the way.
  •
  • Last but certainly not least, you’ll make your way to the grandiose cathedral to wrap up your day of exploring.

Short Description
  • No matter how much time you have in Lisbon, there are certain things you can’t leave without seeing. On this tour, you’ll check all of them off your list over the course of one fascinating day. Get early access at the Jerónimos Monastery, enjoy a relaxing river cruise with spectacular views of the city, explore the heart of Lisbon’s neighborhoods, and savor some delicious Portuguese classics (including the original custard tarts!).
  • The São Jorge Castle is one of Lisbon’s most emblematic sites, and the perfect place to begin your tour of the city. With a specially-timed itinerary your guide and small group will take advantage of one of the first entries of the day, avoiding the usual midday crowds to gain access to the ancient castle with foundations dating back to the 1st century BC.
  • The castle’s construction spans from the Visigoths to the Moors, right up until the 1930s when its renovation was completed. Yet despite a long and varied history, you won’t find much information provided within the castle itself, something you don’t need to worry about as your guide knows all of its best stories! Climb the castle walls, and with clear skies you’ll be able to see all the way to Lisbon’s Downtown Baixa area - which you’ll soon be exploring yourself.
  • But first, it’s on to another emblematic site: Lisbon’s Sé Cathedral. As you approach the building, admire the simple yet striking exterior, made of two towers and an imposing Rose Window. Constructed by Portugal’s first king, Afonso I, the Cathedral boasts an impressive history dating from the 12th century. After you’ve explored the gothic interior, you’ll be able to make your way past the Cathedral’s treasury and through a restricted spiral staircase. Wind your way up to find the historic Bell Tower, which has been closed to the public for over 800 years! From here, you’ll get an unparalleled view of the decorative tile work decorating the city. That’s why our next stop is an authentic azulejos tile workshop where you’ll see the skill and artistry that goes into their creation. Afterwards, a guided walking tour of the Baixa area will orientate you in Downtown Lisbon at a leisurely pace.
  • By now you’ll have worked up an appetite so your small group will break up for some free time for lunch. You’ll have your pick of places to go for food nearby, but be sure to ask your guide for some local recommendations!
  • After lunch, it’s time to spend an adventurous afternoon exploring Belém - the birthplace of Lisbon’s Age of Explorations. Travelling by train, you’ll be in this dynamic neighbourhood in a matter of minutes. Here you’ll find the Jerónimos Monastery - where sailors often spent the night before their voyage praying for a safe journey. With skip the line tickets, discover the Monastery’s cloister, and walk in the footsteps of famed explorers such as Vasco da Gama who is buried within the Cathedral.
  • As you head towards Lisbon’s Tagus river, you’ll see one of the main symbols of the city - Belém Tower (Torre de Belém). Hear about its history as a safe-guard to the city before walking a short way to the Monument to the Discoveries (Padrão dos Descobrimentos). One of Lisbon’s finest sculptures, it depicts the story of the people who made the Age of Explorations possible. End the day by taking in Lisbon’s sights from a new perspective with a cruise down the Tagus river. Along the way, savor a delicious traditional Portugese pastel de nata as you lay your eyes on Lisbon’s top landmarks including the Christ Statue (Cristo Rei) and the MAAT museum. You’ll even pass under the April 25th Bridge on your unique route back to the city.
  • On this full day tour you’ll not only see Lisbon’s best sights, but get swept up in their stories too - the perfect way to explore Portugal’s dynamic capital.

Description
  • Your day begins with early access at the Jerónimos Monastery, an excellent example of Portugal’s distinctive Manueline architecture.
  •
  • After disembarking from the boat, it’s time for lunch. Your group will head to a traditional Portuguese tasca that’s been run by the same family for more than 50 years. Dig into some of the most essential dishes that you can’t leave Portugal without trying and chat with your guide and small group throughout the meal.
  •
  • Sites Visited:
  • São Jorge Castle
  • Sé Cathedral & Bell Tower
  • Miradouro Santa Luzia
