Short Description
  • Out of all Spanish cities, Barcelona is the biggest melting pot with an impressive history and identity of its own. Now, its food scene is a mix of both Spanish and uniquely Catalan classics. On this tour with a small group of just nine other people, you’ll get a sense of this fascinating past as well as the ever-changing present, both of which make Barcelona’s food story what it is today.

On this tour with a small group of just nine other people, you’ll get a sense of this fascinating past as well as the ever-changing present, both of which make Barcelona’s food story what it is today.

Description
  • Begin your day like the locals do – at one of the most beloved food markets in the city. At the Santa Caterina Market, the stalls have been kept within families for generations – which means they know a thing or two about quality, local produce! Alongside your expert guide and small group of max nine people, make your way through these enticing stalls as you learn about local traditions and customs. Of course, two tastings are included along the way: one of delicious Spanish cheeses and the other of cured meats, including jamón ibérico!      Breakfast, anyone? It’s time to pop over to one of the market’s most popular bars where locals often stop for breakfast and lunch during a busy day of shopping. You’ll be treated to breakfast the Catalan way – with a glass of sparkling cava along with an array of specialty sandwiches made with spinach tortilla and spicy Mallorcan sausage.      It’s time to explore one of Barcelona’s most storied neighborhoods. El Born might be home to trendy tapas bars and designer boutiques, but it’s also a prime example of the rich history still on view across Barcelona. As you make your way down the narrow medieval streets, you’ll hear fascinating stories from your expert guide that will put what you see before you into context.      Founded in the mid-19th century, your next stop is one of the city’s classic bakeries. It’s not only a portal into the past but a treasure trove of delicious baked goods. Their croissants, widely regarded as the best this side of the Pyrenees, are a must try! You’ll also see an example of one of Barcelona’s specialty shops – one of the last in existence – and try three of their best-selling products.       For a different perspective of Barcelona, you’ll make your way to another iconic neighborhood: La Barceloneta. Peruse some of the most interesting corners of this seaside district before gaining an education in the art of the Spanish aperitif! A glass of delicious vermouth awaits at a local bodega where you’ll also get to try one of Barcelona’s tastiest tapas: the bomba. Fittingly, this neighborhood is also considered its birthplace!
  •  The final stop of the tour is a traditional Spanish lunch. Sequestered in the fishermen’s district, this spot has been serving locals since the 1950s and continues to deliver some of the best iterations of classic fare. Try some of the best seafood paella in town made using seasonal ingredients and paired with a delightful local wine.      You’ll come away from this experience with a unique understanding of Barcelona’s food culture and how it has been shaped.

  • More than many cities in Spain, Barcelona is a melting pot. Influenced over the years by cultures from within Spain and beyond, the dishes that we consider traditional today weren't always part of Barcelona's story. But without them, the city wouldn't be the same. On this tour, we'll explore a mix of traditional businesses and the ones that are writing that story today, while we discover the real Barcelona through its food.

Description
  • Begin your day like the locals do – at one of the most beloved food markets in the city. At the Santa Caterina Market, the stalls have been kept within families for generations – which means they know a thing or two about quality, local produce! Make your way through these enticing stalls as you learn about local traditions and customs. Of course, two tastings are included along the way: one of delicious Spanish cheeses and the other of cured meats, including jamón ibérico!
  •
  • Breakfast, anyone? It’s time to pop over to one of the market’s most popular bars where locals often stop for breakfast and lunch during a busy day of shopping. You’ll be treated to breakfast the Catalan way – with a glass of sparkling cava along with an array of specialty sandwiches made with spinach tortilla and spicy Mallorcan sausage.
  •
  • It’s time to explore one of Barcelona’s most storied neighborhoods. El Born might be home to trendy tapas bars and designer boutiques, but it’s also a prime example of the rich history still on view across Barcelona. As you make your way down the narrow medieval streets, you’ll hear fascinating stories from your expert guide that will put what you see before you into context.
  •
  • Founded in the mid-19th century, your next stop is one of the city’s classic bakeries.
  •
  • For a different perspective of Barcelona, you’ll make your way to another iconic neighborhood: La Barceloneta.
  •
  • You’ll come away from this experience with a unique understanding of Barcelona’s food culture and how it has been shaped.
  •
  • Start your morning at the Santa Caterina Market, a local favourite where the stalls have been family-run institutions for decades! You’ll weave in and out of locals doing their shopping as you learn about their daily customs and traditions. Along the way, you’ll make two stops to try several Spanish cheeses, followed by cured meatsincluding jamón ibérico!
  • Next, we'll head to one of the market's most-loved bars. Open since the 1980s, this is where locals stop for breakfast and lunch while shopping—and that's exactly what we're here to do! You'll enjoy a glass of sparkling cava (the true Catalan way to start the day!) paired with next-level sandwiches featuring treats such as spinach tortilla and spicy Mallorcan sausage.
  • When we leave the market, we'll start exploring the Born neighbourhood. One of Barcelona's most iconic, we know it's on your list to visit anyway—best to do it with an expert. Your guide will share our favourite neighbourhood haunts and stories with you, including the famous Santa Maria del Mar church, which is the best example of Catalan Gothic architecture in the city.
  • Next, we'll stop at one of the city's classic bakeries that first opened its doors in the mid-19th century. This spot is famous for having the best croissants this side of the Pyrenees, and after tasting one for yourself, you'll see why.
  • Our next food stop is one of Barcelona’s oldest speciality shops—one of the last of its kind, in fact! Here you’ll taste three of the shop’s star products.
  • After a morning of exploring (and tasting your way through!) the Born neighbourhood, it’s time to head towards the fishermen’s district of Barceloneta! Along the way, your guide will highlight some of the neighbourhood's most interesting corners.
  • At our first Barceloneta stop, it’s time to practice the art of the Spanish aperitif! We'll visit a local bodega for a glass of vermouth and Barcelona's favourite tapa: the bomba. Considered by locals to be the only tapa ever invented in Barcelona, we'll share its colourful story with you.
  • At our last stop, we'll finish strong with a traditional Spanish lunch! You’ll visit a tucked-away restaurant in the fishermen’s district that's been open since the 1950s. Here we'll enjoy some of the best homemade seafood paella in town, paired with fantastic local wine!
