‘Jonathan’ as he asked to be called if we didn’t really enjoy the ‘free’ walking tour was clear and helpful ‘when asked’, but I’ve been on hundreds of free city walking tours, and this one was rather flat and lacking depth of detail… Brief details of the few stops around the Pest part of Budapest, were date lead, but no details of the buildings we were walking past, there was a section of his pitch about the language, but no helping us to learn any basic Hungarian words to use in our trip or bars or cafes… That would have been helpful and fun, considering Hungarian is the hardest ‘European’ language to learn and understand. ‘JONATHAN’ also didn’t build any rapport with the group… I like to know where people are from, so we can engage with others in the group as we walk… It was also a very hot/sunny day and some of the stops/talks were done in full sun… He did mention that he had worked for 18 days non stop, and that may have been the cause of the lackluster tour. He also didn’t inspire us with information of other tours that might be of interest, and seemed keen to rush off at the end, again, not inspiring us to ask the questions we needed help with. The ‘downloaded guide’ also has no info on the best river cruises to take either… So… Hopefully ‘Gulash’ or Borash will take this as constructive criticism to improve for others thinking of this tour.

We took two walking tours this week. Balázs (Rhymes with Goulash) was our two guide for both. He’s an excellent guide. He’s super knowledgeable and a very good storyteller. He brought Hungarian history to life in both! Thank you!!!

I took 3 walking tours while in Budapest - the general, Castle, and the Jewish district in that order. Both Balazs and Andre were great and the order I chose definitely worked. The Jewish one was like a follow on from the general. The first two covered similar background and history, but the Jewish one had a different, interesting tangent which made this my favourite even though it was Balazs's first time giving the tour - only complaint is that this one is a little short. Given the sun and hot temperatures, every effort was made to find shade and guide to water fountains which were much appreciated. Highly recommend.

Boulash was excellent. We stopped at interesting points of reference, where he gave the just right amount of history and interesting factoids. His voice carried quite well; we did not have to strain to hear him. It was a hot and sunny day, and he took care to stop in shaded areas. Five stars for Boulash!

It was a very interesting tour of the Pest side of Budapest. Our Tourguide Balázs was very sympathetic and funny. He shared some general information of Hungarian history and the history of Budapest and mixed in a lot of fun not so common information about the city. It's perfect for a first overview of the Pest site of the city to start your trip with. It was definitely time well spent and we can only recommend it. ⭐
