Osaka Shinsekai Street Food Tour – Evening

We had a fantastic experience touring the vibrant Dotonbori district of Osaka with Ike from Arigato Tours. Ike was an exceptionally engaging and knowledgeable tour leader, especially well-versed in the local street food scene. He introduced us to some amazing culinary treats, including takoyaki (octopus-filled dough balls), which quickly became one of our favorites, and taiyaki—fish-shaped cakes filled with sweet custard—that were both delicious and fun to eat. Beyond the food, Ike offered plenty of insight into Japanese customs and local traditions, which really enriched the experience. His friendly demeanor and pleasant conversation made the tour not just informative, but truly enjoyable. Thanks to Ike, we left with full stomachs and a deeper appreciation for Osaka’s street culture and cuisine.

Great informative tour with delicious and very filling food

We had an excellent tour with Yappy, and are more than our weight in delicious food. The tour included a quick traditional breakfast at a restaurant in the market, and lunch with purchases Yappy made at the market along the way. We sampled lots of food, had great history lessons and laughed a lot! Absolutely worth the cost. Our five twenty somethings enjoyed it as much as we parents did.

Cold Soba is the best!

We really enjoyed this food tour in a neighborhood of Tokyo that we likely would not have visited on our own. Serena was an excellent guide, offering up plenty of history, culture, and food knowledge. Lunch was excellent and the other food stops were a lot of fun. Direction on where to meet where clear and location easy to find with the help of Google Maps. Would definitely book again.

Our guide for the tour, Jacob, was absolutely fabulous! Extremely knowledgeable, interactive, and such a good personality to serve as a tour guide. My husband and I loved our time with him and very much appreciated each place he took us to. It was a fabulous tour, and a definite highlight of our time in Tokyo!

My husband and I worked with Arigato Travel (specifically Karina and Lauren) to plan our honeymoon and would highly recommend. Throughout the planning process, Karina and Lauren took our interests/preferences into consideration and were receptive to our feedback in shaping a personalized itinerary. For example, we told them that we loved food and nature, and they included lots of food-related (e.g., food tours, cooking classes) and outdoorsy (e.g., day trip to a national park) activities in our itinerary. Before we left and once we arrived in Japan, they were responsive and helpful in addressing all our questions/concerns; we especially appreciated their in-the-moment support during time-sensitive situations (e.g., when we were having trouble finding a train). Karina and Lauren coordinated activities for us that we wouldn't have found or thought to do otherwise (e.g., dinner with local farmers, washi making) and that allowed us to have a more authentic experience by connecting with locals and going to/staying in places that were off the beaten path. All of our guides were so knowledgeable about Japan and Japanese culture, and it was interesting to learn from both people who had been born and raised in Japan and those who had moved to Japan later on. Our honeymoon was everything we hoped it would be and more, thanks to Arigato!

Yanaka one bite at a time

We had a very enjoyable food tour of Yanaka with Michie and Joshua from Arigato Travel Tours. They were very warm and friendly and they shared a lot of interesting local history, including what to say at Japanese meals and information about the area’s shrines and temples, one or two of which we were able to visit along our walk. We tried senbei at Yanaka Senbei, beef and mushroom croquettes from Niku no Suzuki, yuzu sake at Echigoya Honten (a must), cream cheese & sweet bean paste bread and other baked goods at Hitotema bakery, fresh cherries (so different from Western cherries), matcha kakigori and the most amazing sweet potatoes, among other great snacks and street food. Lunch at a local soba restaurant was included, but the most memorable part of the experience was the tea ceremony at Gallery Okubo. This tour is definitely a highlight of our stay in Tokyo. Traveling to Kyoto for the very first time and wanted to make the most of it. Found Arigato Travel when I was looking for experienced food and neighborhood tours and signed up. They were very professional with their communication and follow through, which left me confident that I had chosen well. Then on the day of, we met with Noboru, who was very warm and welcoming. He showed us all around historic Gion, as well as gave us great history and background of each spot - shrines, streets, bridges, and on. He is clearly proud of Kyoto, and it shows. He also took us to some excellent neighborhood eats and handled every step so we did not have to worry about anything. Really happy with his tour and Arigato Travel's service. Highly recommend!

We really enjoyed our sake tour with our guide Sanae. The museum was interesting, lunch was great and the tasting at the end was both interesting and great fun. But the highlight of the tour was Sanae, who was a wonderful, gracious and entertaining guide.

Full of food!

Had a great evening exploring some restaurants with our guide, Mio. She brought good vibes to the tour and we enjoyed chatting whilst wandering the streets checking out the sights and trying some great food. Gave us an awesome recommendation for a brilliant backstreet curry restaurant too, which ended up being a great end to our time in Osaka the next evening. We also tried a couple drinks I might not have otherwise experienced, and continued ordering later into my trip. I was wondering what to expect with the food after checking a few of the lower star reviews, but if anyone is left wanting more to eat, that definitely isn't on the tour operator lol. We were all thoroughly stuffed full of delicious food and couldn't possibly have eaten any more.

We loved our food tour with Russ! The whole thing was in Shinsekai, which is a fun area. We got to try tsurigane manju, takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and kushikatsu. We also picked up some novelty Pringles flavors, and we got to swing by a local knife shop (something we'd wanted to do anyway). Russ brought a lot of knowledge of both the food and the history and was generally a great guide. Highly recommended!
