Why take this tour?

Navigating your way through the colorful cobblestone streets of Montmartre can be tricky, especially among the throngs of visitors that pack into the neighborhood earlier in the day. This Montmartre tour will help you avoid the chaos and show you a side of this vibrant neighborhood that most of the crowds will miss. With a strategic late afternoon start time for a more relaxed experience, you’ll embark on a guided exploration of Montmartre’s fascinating artistic and cultural heritage in the company of a knowledgeable Paris local. Make your way from stunning Sacré-Coeur to the fascinating neighborhood museum and finally to the secret vineyards for a private wine tasting as the neighborhood comes to life through your guide’s unforgettable stories.

Begin your Montmartre adventure with a funicular ride to Sacré-Coeur and the breathtaking panoramic views of Paris that await you in front of the basilica. Watch the late afternoon light settle over the city as your guide gives you an introduction to this exquisite neighborhood and all that lies in store for you as you explore it.

Next, you’ll start to make your way downhill on a guided tour through the neighborhood’s storied streets. Your guide has carefully planned the itinerary for your stroll, so you’ll experience all of Montmartre’s must-sees while avoiding most of the crowds. Highlights include the lively Place du Tertre, where local artists display their work, and the Moulin de la Galette, an old windmill-turned-restaurant immortalized by Picasso and Van Gogh that stands as a lasting symbol of Montmartre’s bohemian legacy.

Your next stop is the Montmartre Museum, where you’ll sail past the line and head inside for a journey back through 250+ years of local history. In addition to an extraordinary collection of paintings, you’ll also see relics from the legendary Le Chat Noir cabaret, visit the recreated studio of Renoir and Valadon, and step into a bar room straight out of the 1940s, whose counter was saved from the Nazis during WWII thanks to an ingenious plot.

The cherry on top of your day comes at the Montmartre vineyards, the last of their kind in Paris. With no other guests on the grounds, you’ll be ushered inside for a VIP tour of the vines and a private wine tasting. As you stroll and sip, you’ll learn about the winemaking traditions of this urban vineyard and how a historic charity-based organization is keeping them alive. Before you leave, you’ll receive a unique souvenir from the winery to help you remember your perfect day in Montmartre.
