Schindler's Factory Guided Tour

Overall it was a good experience, we would have liked to have a little more time to read some of the notes and information relating to the pictures

Foki, our guide, was excellent. She was knowledgeable, engaging, and friendly. It was a fascinating tour, especially with Foki’s insights. The museum was really crowded and there was a long wait, but she handled everything professionally.

I purchased two tickets through Headout for an English guided tour of Schindler’s Factory while we were vacationing in Kraków. The tickets were purchased on my mobile phone. When booking a tour on a small screen, it is easy for an important condition to get lost among several pages of routine information. A requirement that can result in being completely refused entry should never be buried in the details. We arrived on time but were refused admission because we had digital copies of our identification on our phones rather than our physical passports or driver’s licences. Initially, our tour guide was short and not particularly helpful. However, after sending the rest of the group ahead, he became much more helpful and genuinely tried to assist us. He explained that the authorities require physical identification and that he could not admit us with digital copies. There is some irony in being required to produce physical identification while so many government and travel services are moving toward digital identification, but this was obviously not something our guide could change. The result was that we lost the English guided tour we had paid for and specifically planned into our vacation. We then had to rearrange the following day’s itinerary so we could return to Schindler’s Factory. Unfortunately, when we returned, an English-speaking guide at the facility refused to allow us to simply listen to his English tour and embarrassed us in front of his group. That compounded an already disappointing experience. Despite all of this, Schindler’s Factory itself is something I believe everyone should see. The lessons of WWII and the Holocaust remain critically important, particularly at a time when antisemitism and hatred toward Jewish (and Christian) people are again very real. History demonstrates how propaganda, dehumanization and the manipulation of ordinary people can allow hatred to become normalized. Whatever your background or beliefs, this history needs to be understood so that what happened is never allowed to happen again. My main complaint with Headout is simple: if failure to bring physical ID means you will be refused entry, that warning should be impossible to miss. At the very top of the booking page and confirmation it should state: PHYSICAL PASSPORT OR DRIVER’S LICENCE REQUIRED — DIGITAL COPIES NOT ACCEPTED. YOU MAY BE REFUSED ENTRY WITHOUT IT. Travellers are spending not only their money but their limited vacation time based on these bookings. Headout needs to make critical admission requirements unmistakably clear before someone pays and again on the ticket or confirmation.
