Wait time wastes to much of sightseeing time
For the most part this is a good way to get around the area to see the sites. Problem is timing between buses, the wait is so long waste to much of day waiting around for the bus, in heat and no shade. Due to traffic, to few buses, whatever the excuse lessens the experience. To few stops so miss a lot of sites for those with walking impairments and can't walk a great distance between all the sites at a single stop due to distance between the site stops. Getting harder each trip to utilize the hop-on-off bus activity.
Dissapointed
The drop off for the coliseum was very far from the building, we ended up walking over a mile to see it and get back to the stop. This defeated the purpose of the drop off bus. We ended up taking a taxi back to the hotel. We could have walked to the coliseum from our hotel easier. The sights we did drive by were very nice and the information informative although the vocal was not perfectly linked to the location so some of the sights were missed.

Don’t waste your money
If you are booking a hop on hop off bus tour in Rome, be very careful which tour company you choose. Both big bus Rome and city sightseeing tours have large red double-decker buses that are easily confused. In fact, they are so confusing that we bought a ticket for city sightseeing tours and the big bus driver let us board (!?!). So we had a chance to compare the audio guides for both. The recorded audio for big bus Rome was much more informative than city sightseeing, which was mostly cheesy Italian music. While waiting at the bus stops, the big bus Rome buses would come by at a ratio of 3 to 1 compared to city sightseeing. And since they come along so seldom, the buses can get very crowded and you might end up with a view like the attached photo. Don’t waste your money.
