Reykjanes Peninsula Private Tour from Reykjavik

Summary

Meet your dedicated guide at your hotel or residence in Reykjavik. Board a private tour vehicle for the ride to the southwest corner of the country, known as the Reykjanes peninsula. During your journey, get to know your guide and let them know any special interests you have. This private tour is customizable and ensures personal attention for you and your group.  Your first stop is at Grindavik, an Icelandic fishing village where you can visit the Saltfisksetrid Museum, dedicated to the role of the salted fish industry in Iceland's history. Continue west, past Gunnuhver to see the active geothermal areas.  Visit Reykjanesviti, the country's oldest lighthouse, home to a fantastic array of native bird life. If the conditions are right, you will be able to see the tiny island of Eldey which sits 10 miles (16km) offshore.  Continue to the 'Bridge Between Continents', the rift where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are cleaving apart. Then, see the viking ship Islendingur, preserved at the Viking World Museum, and make optional stops at the Sandgerdi and Gardur museums. Finish your tour with a visit to the famous Blue Lagoon (optional, additional fees apply).  At the conclusion of your 5-hour tour, return to your accommodation in Reykjavik.
