Your tour begins with pickup from your central Cuenca hotel in time for a 9am departure. Traveling in the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle, set out to the first market of the day — Ecuador’s biggest animal market, where you’ll gain a fascinating insight into rural life and traditions.
Back in the city, visit the atmospheric Mercado 10 de Agosto, where you can browse the many stalls, learn more about the regional produce on display, and perhaps sample some local delicacies or delicious tropical fruits (own expense). If you do want to purchase anything, your guide can help you master the art of ‘trueque’ (bartering)!
After lunch (own expense), discover Ecuador’s rich craft-making heritage as you visit the Rotary Market and Pottery Crafts Market, and admire beautiful handicrafts made from wicker, iron, and clay. If you’re lucky, you might get to watch some of the craftsmen at work and witness for yourself the ancient craft-making traditions.
Your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel around 5pm.
