Meet your guide at a central location in Tromsø, and hop inside your comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle to travel to the wilderness center, home to the husky farm.
After about 30 minutes on the road, hop off to meet the experienced puppy handlers. You'll hear all about the center, which houses 300 Alaskan huskies and their offspring. Learn how much time and effort is dedicated throughout the year into training the dogs, with the aim of participating in dogsled racing. Summer is the key time for introducing the puppies to the teamwork and skills needed for sledding.
During a guided tour of the dog yard, meet some of the youngest sled dogs, aged between four weeks and six months. After a briefing, set off with the handlers and puppies on a 1- to 1.5-hour hike into the wilderness surrounding the farm. Walk around the picturesque fell sides with your canine companions and learn more about the skills they need to become star sled racers.
Your participation is encouraged while the handlers put them through their paces with training exercises dependent on the dogs’ ages. See the puppies take off on runs, watch as they learn to work together, and help out as requested. It's a great opportunity to bond with the pups.
After your time in the great outdoors, head back to the farm, and bid farewell to the pups. Then, sit down to a hearty lunch in the wilderness center, recharging your batteries with traditional Norwegian dishes.
Lastly, relax on your ride back to Tromsø, where your experience ends with a drop-off back at the original starting point.
