After morning pickup from the Radisson Blu Hotel in Tromsø, settle inside a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and travel to the husky dog base on the picturesque nearby island of Kvaløya. On arrival, get a briefing on what’s ahead from your hiking guide, and meet the energetic Alaskan huskies who will accompany you on your trek. Then, set off on foot into the countryside with your dogs on long leashes. (As the huskies are very strong and trained to pull, two to three people usually share one dog between them.) Trek along trails through glorious flower meadows, drinking in spectacular views over fjords and distant, snow-capped mountains. Watch for wildlife, inhale the crystal-clear air, and absorb the sense of absolute freedom. On route, watch for wildlife, hear about the surrounding area, and enjoy the companionship of the huskies — even though you might wonder who’s taking who for a walk! If the weather allows, enjoy an outdoor lunch in the wild, cooked Norwegian-style over the campfire. Alternatively, have lunch back at base, after your hike. Either way, finish with chocolate cake at a traditional-style tent. Before returning, meet some of the top-trained huskies and puppies, petting the beautiful youngsters and learning about their care. Your 5-hour experience finishes with central Tromsø drop-off.

Why take this tour?

If you love dogs and the life outdoors, experiencing the arctic nature with a four-legged hiking buddy is an absolute must-do! Upon arrival at our center, you will receive rubber boots and rain clothes if necessary. And then we are off! Our guide will take you and some of our energetic huskies out on a hike through the arctic wilderness surrounding our center. We usually do not give a dog to each guest, as our dogs are strong and trained to pull – most guests are happy to rotate handling them. Be prepared for some exercise!  Once we are back, our guide will give you a tour of our dog yard and tell you about our center, life with the dogs, and dog sledding. Afterwards we will restore your strength with a steaming hot portion of Bacalao, a traditional Norwegian fish dish made from locally sourced ingredients, and a piece of our signature chocolate cake for dessert. A vegetarian option is available upon request.

We started out as a home for dogs in 1988, since then our passion for dogs and life in the nature has taken us on an exilerating journey. Today we're one of Tromso's leading tourist destinations with over 300 dogs. Our main tours are with the dogsleds but we also have Northern Lights tours and snowshoe rentals. In the summer we have Kayak trips, a wide range of tours and hikes with our huskies and puppies as well as glacier hikes. We'll provide warm clothes on all our tours to keep you warm while enjoying the Arctic Nature.
