Your day trip will begin with pickup from your central Budapest hotel. Alongside your knowledgeable guide, begin the journey to the southern wine region of Villány. Enjoy a background on the history of Hungarian wine as you venture through the scenic route, and learn the effects of the area's sub-Mediterranean climate on its robust red wines. As this is a private tour, your guide can tailor the itinerary to your preferences, if you wish.
Upon arrival, embark on a comprehensive tour of the region with visits to three select wineries. Enjoy samples of five to eight wines at each stop and examine the grapes up close with a walk through a vineyard. Sip and swirl whites such as olaszrizling, and cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and portugieser reds. The winemakers will discuss the characteristics of each as you taste, and help you distinguish every unique flavor.
As you travel from winery to winery, see some of Villány’s wine villages and view traditional cellars, many of which are still in regular use. Midway through the day, pause for a 3-course lunch at a traditional restaurant, including dishes such as hearty broths, roasts and strudel for dessert.
Head to the third and final winery after lunch, where your tastings will be accompanied by delicious local meats and cheeses. Your day will conclude with transportation back to Budapest.
