Private Tour: Sharjah City Highlights from Dubai

After pickup from your central Dubai hotel, travel by air-conditioned minivan into the neighboring emirate of Sharjah for your private 4.5-hour tour.

On route, hear about the history of the city of Sharjah, the emirate’s namesake capital, set on the shores of the Arabian Gulf and nicknamed the Pearl of the Gulf. Learn how the city boasts a lovely, restored Old Town complete with a fort, heritage areas, souks and museums.

Stop first at the imperious King Faisal Mosque, Sharjah’s largest mosque. Stroll around the exterior to admire the domes and minarets as your guide explains how the mosque was a gift from Saudi Arabia’s king in 1987.

Continue to Sharjah Fort (Al Hisn Fort) to explore this beautifully restored 19th-century outpost. Hear how it was once home to the Al Qasimi family — Sharjah’s rulers — and head inside to view the traditional Emirati architecture and artifacts.

After a visit to Sharjah Heritage Museum to learn more about Sharjah’s fascinating past, visit two of the city’s most popular souks.

Hear about the importance of the markets to Emirati life, and head to Souk Al Arsah. Browse the stalls hawking everything from pashminas and khanjars (daggers) to herbs and spices, and hear how the souk originated when Persian traders sold their wares here over 50 years ago.

Continue to the Al Markazi Souk, where the shops sell gold, jewelry, silk and carpets. Get some free time to buy souvenirs (own expense) before finishing your tour with a drop-off at your Dubai hotel.

Dress code: lightweight summer clothing is suitable for most of the year, but sweaters or jackets may be needed for the winter months, especially in the evenings. Good quality sunglasses are advised. Hats are advisable when in direct sunlight.
