Pastizzi are a popular and well-known traditional Maltese food. These hot, flaky, savoury pastries usually have a filling of irkotta (a Maltese variety of ricotta) or mushy peas.
In Malta we have a saying: “Jinbiegħu bħal pastizzi”, “Sold like pastizzi”, which shows the popularity of this traditional snack with the locals. One can buy pastizzi from one of hundreds of pastizzeria around the Islands.
Ġulinu, a master pastizzar, together with his wife Nancy will share with you the art of making these mouthwatering pastizzi. Ġulinu has been making pastizzi for a lifetime. Before he retired, he used to sell these pastries from a shop in the village of Rabat but now he and Nancy mainly work from home.
During this workshop, apart from tasting pastizzi and learning about this age-old tradition, you will have the unique opportunity to participate in the pastizzi-making class under the guidance of the master himself. After baking, the pastizzi are yours to enjoy!
