After pickup from your central Amman hotel, set off on your private, full-day tour by comfortable, air-conditioned minivan.
Enjoy the views as you travel southward through Jordan’s desert landscapes toward Wadi Rum. Extending across a huge chunk of south Jordan, this protected valley boasts towering sandstone mountains, craggy river beds and steep gorges, all coated in a kaleidoscope of natural rock colors, from pinks to vivid reds.
On route, hear stories of the wadi’s links with TE Lawrence, perhaps better known as ‘Lawrence of Arabia.’ During WWI, this British officer and archaeologist fought here alongside the Bedouin Arabs against the Ottoman Turks, basing his headquarters in the valley. Many wadi sites are named after this still-revered British soldier.
After roughly four hours, arrive at the wadi entrance, and enjoy a 2-hour tour by 4x4, with a Bedouin driver at the wheel. Have your camera ready as you pass through narrow gorges and plains framed by natural rock arches, towering buttes, ancient caves and red dunes. Stop at some of the most enchanting viewpoints, including the tumbling waters at Lawrence’s Spring, rocks etched with ancient inscriptions, water holes and more.
Take time out for lunch (own expense) and, if you wish, upgrade to include 30-minute camel ride to make your visit extra special. Plus, visit a Bedouin tent to meet the friendly locals and enjoy a glass of refreshing mint tea.
When the time comes, reconvene with your driver and relax on your ride back to Amman, where your day trip finishes back at your hotel.
