Kick off your Petra tour with pickup from your Amman accommodation at 7am. Climb aboard an air-conditioned vehicle, greet your small group of nine or fewer, and settle in for the 3-hour journey to one of the New7Wonders of the World.
On arrival at the gate of the 2,000-year-old archaeological site, you’ll greet your guide and choose to either embark on a 20-minute walk or take a horseback ride (included in the tour price) to the Siq, a narrow chasm that heralds the entrance of the city.
If you’ve opted to take a horseback ride, reconvene with your group at the Siq and embark on a steep 1-mile (1.5-kilometer) hike through the sandstone gorge. Afterwards, you’ll be rewarded with the sight of the Treasury’s magnificent columns, the most recognizable structure of Petra. Gaze at the rosy-pink hue of its façade, featured in the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, before continuing through the Nabataean valley to the 8,000-seat amphitheater and the Royal Tombs.
Following your tour, you’ll have two and half hours to explore Petra at your leisure — opt to ascend to the Monastery, admire the architecture of Petra Church, or purchase lunch at one of several restaurants on site.
After you reconvene with your driver and small group, relax during the 3-hour journey back to your Amman accommodation.
