FAQ

How long is the Egmont Key excursion, and how much time do we get on the island?

Toggle FAQ

The total private charter is 3 hours, which includes a scenic 25-minute boat ride each way from Bradenton Beach Marina to Egmont Key, plus approximately 2 hours of actual island exploration time. This gives you ample opportunity to explore Fort Dade ruins, visit the lighthouse, swim and snorkel, search for shells, spot gopher tortoises, relax on pristine beaches, and enjoy a picnic. Departure times are flexible throughout the day based on availability. Please arrive at least 25 minutes before your scheduled departure at 402 Church Ave, Bradenton Beach, FL for check-in and boarding.

Are there any facilities on Egmont Key?

Toggle FAQ

Egmont Key has NO restrooms, fresh water, food vendors, shops, or modern facilities of any kind. The island is a protected State Park and National Wildlife Refuge maintained in its natural state. You must bring everything you'll need for 2 hours including plenty of drinking water, food, snacks, and any beach gear. Plan bathroom breaks before boarding the boat at Bradenton Beach Marina. This lack of facilities is part of what keeps the island pristine and uncrowded, but requires proper planning!

What should we bring for the Egmont Key trip?

Toggle FAQ

Pack like you're spending a full beach day! Essential items include a large cooler with plenty of drinking water, food, and snacks; reef-safe sunscreen; hat, sunglasses, and sun-protective clothing; beach towels; cameras; snorkel gear, and beach toys. Cash or credit card for optional crew gratuity (18-20% customary). The boat has limited storage for hard coolers, so pack efficiently!

Can we swim and snorkel at Egmont Key?

Toggle FAQ

Absolutely! Swimming and snorkeling are highlights of the Egmont Key experience. The crystal-clear Gulf of Mexico waters surrounding the island offer excellent visibility (often 20+ feet on calm days) and are perfect for snorkeling. You'll see colorful tropical fish, hermit crabs, rays, and occasionally sea turtles gliding through the water. The calm, shallow areas near shore are ideal for children and beginner snorkelers. You must bring your own snorkel gear because none is provided.

Is Egmont Key suitable for young children?

Toggle FAQ

Yes! Egmont Key is excellent for families with children of all ages. Kids love spotting gopher tortoises, exploring the fort ruins (feels like an adventure), playing on uncrowded beaches, swimming in calm Gulf waters, collecting shells, and snorkeling in clear shallows. The island's natural, undeveloped character provides educational opportunities about wildlife, history, and ecosystems that children find engaging.

What happens if the weather is bad?
