This is a unique opportunity for a private experience where you will be welcomed into the home of a local Addis Ababa resident for a traditional Ethiopian meal and coffee ceremony. After being picked up from your Addis Ababa hotel, host Daniel will drive you to his home where you will meet his wife, Tigist, and their young boys if they are home, and join them for a traditional Ethiopian meal. You will enjoy dishes such as injera, a delicious specialty of Ethiopia made of a fermented batter and cooked into a thin, sponge-like bread. Tear off morsels of the injera and enjoy a variety of Ethiopian curries, vegetables and sauces that Tigist will have prepared for you. Learn about the culture and culinary traditions of Ethiopia and enjoy the incredible hospitality of a local Addis Ababa family in this private experience. You will end your meal with a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony.

Why take this tour?

Your host will pick you up from your Addis Ababa hotel and bring you home to enjoy a private, authentic Ethiopian meal with his wife Tigist in their home. During your 1.5 hour experience, Tigist and Daniel will share stories of their live and more about their culinary traditions of Ethiopia. Enjoy perfect homemade injera, a traditional fermented bread Ethiopians use as an edible plate with other dishes such as shiro and tibs served on top of it. You will also learn to roast coffee beans and enjoy a traditional coffee ceremony after your meal, as Ethiopia is the birth place of coffee! This is a unique opportunity to learn from locals and experience authentic Ethiopia with its traditions and cuisine - so join these great hosts and leave with a full stomach and new memories to share with your loved ones at home! Please note that on days Daniel is away, his partner Yadassa hosts along with Tigist, Daniel's wife at her home.
