Peruvian Home Cooking Experience

Summary

Receive a pickup from your Cusco hotel. Your start time will depend on if you’ve chosen the morning or afternoon cooking session. You’ll proceed from your accommodation with your chef instructor to the city’s San Pedro Market. Marvel at the wild variety of foodstuffs for sale at this center of Cusco commerce as you pick up ingredients for your cooking session. Among the items you’ll likely encounter are tropical fruits and vegtables, fresh coca leaves, “oropesas” (giant bread), cheeses, and a number of other “quirky” local products. You’ll also get an introduction to typical Peruvian ingredients such as potatoes, quinoa, mushrooms, “aguaymanto,” yellow peppers, and more. Make sure to help your instructor haggle with the vendors to get the best price. Then head to the chef’s home and strap on your apron as you prepare to make a multi-course Peruvian meal. You’ll start by learning to make a Pisco Sour, one of Peru’s most famous cocktails, then help as you get a step-by-step explanation of how to make two more dishes and a tasty dessert. Throughout the session your chef will also share additional details about their life as told through various stories and photos. When the meal is ready, sit down with your chef and new friends to enjoy the “fruits” of your labor, accompanied by shared bottles of wine. Your excursion will end here.
