Northern Lights and Arctic Circle Trip from Fairbanks

Highlights

  • See the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, one of the world's largest oil pipelines

  • Look for Alaskan wildlife along the Yukon River and on Finger Mountain

  • Hope to catch sight of the Aurora Borealis on the return to Fairbanks

Summary

Start with pickup from your Fairbanks hotel, then set out for the Arctic Circle in your comfortable climate-controlled vehicle. Your guide points out landmarks along the way, including the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which runs for more than 800 miles (1,287 kilometers) across Alaska. At the mighty Yukon River, stop for a walk along the riverbanks. Then head up to Finger Mountain to look for moose, bear, fox, and other native wildlife. There, snack on provided sandwiches, dessert, and hot drinks. When you reach the Arctic Circle, receive a 'Cross the Circle!' certificate and have time to take pictures and a look around. Travel back to Fairbanks at night and hope to view the Aurora Borealis. Sightings of this natural phenomenon are not guaranteed, but the chance to see the otherworldly light display is well worth a try. Your tour ends with return to Fairbanks at dawn.
