Get an early start on the day with pickup at your Nairobi hotel, then travel to Lake Nakuru National Park, a roughly 2-hour drive through Kenyan countryside. On your way to the park, pause for views of the Rift Valley at a scenic overlook, then stop by the Lake Nakuru National Park entrance to purchase your day pass.
Watch for wildlife as you start the first game drive of the day: Lake Nakuru National Park is home to white and black rhinos, hippos, and horny baboons, as well as unusual tree-climbing lions. Try to spot the leopards that stalk their prey here, and pass by herds of Rothschild’s giraffes, zebras, and buffalo. While Lake Nakuru’s vast flocks of flamingoes have been thinned by rising water levels, some of the bright-pink birds can often be seen along the lake shore.
Pause for lunch at a park lodge, and rest up for the afternoon game drive—animals differing feeding habits mean that different game appears throughout the day, and making a second game drive increases your chances of seeing more species. Depart the park between 3pm and 4pm, depending on game activity, and watch the sun set as you make the return trip to Nairobi. This tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel between 6pm and 7pm.
