  • The journey to Milford Sound is around 5 hours (one way) from Queenstown, and 3 hours from Te Anau. If you are self-driving, it may be worthwhile staying in Te Anau as the trip can be a long day done all at once.

  • Also leave plenty of time to stop at the many scenic lookouts along the way

  • Alternative vessels or coaches may be used, for example during survey periods
