Meet your guide and small group of no more than six people in Plaza España in central Madrid. After a demonstration from your guide, enjoy some practice time to get familiar with your Segway and learn the basics of stopping, steering and balancing before heading out.
Once you’re comfortable operating your Segway, follow your guide around Plaza de Oriente, past the statue of Felipe IV (Philip IV of Spain), and through the beautiful gardens. Continue to Plaza Ramales, stopping to admire the grand façade of the Royal Palace and snap photos of the Almudena Cathedral, the only Spanish cathedral to have been consecrated by a Pope.
Glide along the busy Calle Mayor, stopping to peek into the historic Mercado de San Miguel, admire the medieval monuments of Plaza de la Villa, and marvel at architectural wonders such as the Bakery House on Plaza Mayor. Learn more about the legacy of Madrid’s writers as you pass through the Literary Quarter, then cruise around the scenic trails of Retiro Park, pausing to see the ‘Fallen Angel’ statue, the striking Crystal Palace, and the pretty French gardens of La Rosaleda. Along the way, stop to take in landmarks such as the Alfonso XII monument, the Puerta de Alcalá, the Royal Theatre, and the Church of San Ginés.
Finally, zip along Calle de Alcalá, Madrid’s longest street and soak up the atmosphere in lively Puerta del Sol, before ending your tour back in Plaza de España.
