Get ready for a perfect and picturesque day exploring Greek history and tradition at the most significant ancient site in Greece outside Athens. For thousands of years, millions of travelers have made their way to the sanctuary at Delphi, from kings seeking guidance from its oracle to modern visitors looking to explore a spectacular ancient attraction. Though making the trip from Athens to Delphi on your own can be a challenge, this Delphi day trip comes with all the details handled for you, including round-trip private transport for you and your small group (15 max) and pre-reserved entry tickets. In addition to a fully guided tour of the archaeological site, you’ll also enjoy a visit to a local farm in the Itea Valley, where you’ll learn about Greece’s strong honey and olive oil traditions and even enjoy a homemade lunch prepared by the owners’ grandmother!
Begin your adventure in central Athens, where you’ll hop aboard a private van alongside your guide and small group, and hit the road early to make the most of your time. Your knowledgeable guide will set the scene for the day ahead as you enjoy the picturesque two-and-a-half-hour drive to Delphi (with one rest stop included).
Once you’ve made it to Delphi, you’ll sail past the long lines outside and head straight in with your pre-reserved tickets for a fully guided tour of the extraordinary site. As you make your way through the ruins, including the legendary Temple of Apollo, your guide will share the incredible story of the Oracle of Delphi that helped cement the sanctuary’s status as the center of the world for the ancient Greeks. In addition to the stunning hillside archaeological site, you’ll also continue your exploration inside the fascinating museum, where more artifacts and stories await.
After your Delphi tour, you’ll board the van once again for a short but sweet drive through the beautiful Valley of Itea. Your next stop is a honey farm run by two brothers who traded the corporate world for a life dedicated to their family’s longstanding traditions producing some of Greece’s most exquisite culinary products. Begin your time here with a tasting of their own olive oil before sitting down to a homemade lunch that the owners’ grandmother will prepare herself.
Wrap up your adventure with an introduction to the local honey-making tradition and a tasting. But before you try it for yourself, you’ll get up close with the production process as you step into a protective bee suit and head out to the hives to see how it’s made!
By the time you board the van one last time for the three-hour return trip to Athens, you’ll have a deeper understanding of Greece’s fascinating history, its most unmissable ancient sites, and the traditions that local families are proudly continuing to this day.
