While not rising much in elevation today, we feel the mountains closing in on our position as we make our way north through the valleys. We will enter a corner of Langtang National Park. We’ll see how powerful the 2015 earthquake was that destroyed this village. The good news is that Nepal only experiences a major earthquake about every 75 years, so we can relax. The views along the way are fabulous. We can look down into the well-watered green Langtang Valley or upwards at the snowcapped peaks. It’s a great day for trekking! The vegetation is grasses and juniper bushes. This allows us to have a 360° panoramic view of the mountains as well as the valley below. It takes us about 3 – 4 hours to reach Kyanjin Gumba.
-
- Elevation: (12,795 ft / 3,900 m)
- Distance: (5.7 km)

-
- DAY 8: Trek to Lama Hotel
-
- We start the return trek today as we come down the mountain. We pass some of the previous places we’ve stayed to reach Lama Hotel. It is a great view along the way as we pass by farms that are terraced into the mountain sides. We’ll spend a night at Lama Hotel. Trekking time is 6 – 7 hours.
-
- Distance: (20.3 km)
- Duration: (10 hrs)
-
- DAY 9: Trek to Syabru Besi
-
- This is our final day of trekking. We are dropping below the timber line and back into lush forests. We cross the Bhote Koshi to reach our hotel for the night. Trekking time is 6 – 7 hours.
-
- DAY 10: Return to Kathmandu
-
- There is only one route to and from Langtang, and our bus journey takes us back the way we came. It’s a 7 – 8 hour journey back to the capital city of Nepal. Tonight rest in your hotel and enjoy a hot shower.

DAY 5: Trek to Mundu (Langtang Village)
We are finding a new route today as we trek past the old village of Langtang. Since the earthquake, the village was moved from its old location to the top of the hill. It takes us about 4 – 5 hours to reach the village of Mundu.
Elevation: (11,791 ft / 3,594 m)
Distance: (14.6 km)
Duration: (7 hrs)
DAY 6: Trek to Kyanjin Gumba
Today we reach Kyanjin Gumba, a Buddhist monastery high in the Langtang Mountains. We’ll spend two nights here and explore the area. We have passed the tree line. The vegetation is grasses and juniper bushes. This allows us to have a 360° panoramic view of the mountains as well as the valley below. It takes us about 3 – 4 hours to reach Kyanjin Gumba.
Elevation: (12,795 ft / 3,900 m)
Distance: (5.7 km)
Duration: (3 hrs)
DAY 7: Explore the Langtang area
We can leave our packs behind as we take our cameras and travel around the area. We can explore Langshisha Kharka, a summer pasture ground for amazing views. Or if we feel more ambitious, hike to the top of Cherko Ri. This is a trekking peak (4984 m/16,352 ft) that features stunning views of the Langtang Mountains. We can even peer into neighboring Tibet. The views are stunning, no matter which way we hike. In the evening you will return to Kyanjin Gumba for the night.
DAY 8: Trek to Lama Hotel
We start the return trek today as we come down the mountain. We pass some of the previous places we’ve stayed to reach Lama Hotel. Great views along the way as we pass by farms that are terraced into the mountainsides. We’ll spend a night at Lama Hotel. Trekking time is 6 – 7 hours.
Distance: (20.3 km)
Duration: (10 hrs)
DAY 9: Trek to Syabru Besi
This is our final day of trekking. We are dropping below the timberline and back into lush forests. We cross the Bhote Koshi to reach our hotel for the night. Trekking time is 6 – 7 hours.
DAY 10: Return to Kathmandu
There is only one route to and from Langtang, and our bus journey takes us back the way we came. It’s a 7 – 8 hour journey back to the capital city of Nepal. Tonight rest in your hotel and enjoy a hot shower.
DAY 11: Free Day
It's your day to enjoy Kathmandu. Some choose to rest from their trek while others will take advantage of the time to explore more of the Kathmandu Valley. There are four more UNESCO World Heritage Sites to explore plus many hidden sites. It is said there are over 1000 temples alone in the Kathmandu Valley. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your guide, porter, and staff of Himalayan Planet Adventures.
DAY 12: Departure
Today we leave the magical land of Nepal for your next destination. Of course, you can always extend your Himalayan Holiday. You can also plan a return trip, as so many visitors do. Whatever you want to do in KTM, be sure to discuss it with your new friends at Himalayan Planet Adventures. There’s always a new adventure awaiting you here in Nepal!
