Short Description
  • Soak up Arles as you follow its mail carrier street by street, down to the river and into the meadows, showing you the places that inspired the vibrant brush of Vincent Van Gogh. Live a long moment by its slow rhythms under brilliant sun and warmth, far from the hustle of gray Paris that he fled. Feel the brightness illuminate your path over the warmed stones of the lanes of this sleepy town where the genius painted. Through his brush he immortalized its workers - men and women- its seasons, its countryside and its waterways with such care, respect and striking talent.
  • Stroll along the streets he walked, with the mail carrier as guide, while she delivers letters to the townsfolk he knew. See the sights he himself saw, including the hospital he turned to after his shattered genius led him to slice off his ear
  • While you follow the postal route, the artist will come alive for you through the frank yet poetic writings traded between Vincent and his brother Theo. In his own vivid but humble words, you will learn of his days and nights, his family, his money worries, his health, and his unquiet mind. But you will also learn of his art, his ideals and his philosophy, all through the letters he exchanged with his brother, the last one found in his pocket the day he took his own life.
  • As the mail carrier brings your visit to an end she will deliver a letter addressed to you personally, one of Vincent’s, painted with his words much as he painted with colors, a letter that you will open again time after time, long after you will have left Arles, an unforgettable memory of a town and the painter who loved it.
  • Imagine discovering Montmartre under the wing of a freedom fighter!  A resistant and journalist who survived deportation to participate in the Liberation of France, the delegate of Paris’s 18th arrondissement Joël le Tac is inviting you to come away with him from the crowds of thousands choking Montmartre’s streets. He will lead you through the lesser known cobblestone lanes to reveal a hidden literary heritage. Haunts and hangouts of renowned writers, poets, singers will hold no more secrets for you. You will feel the creative inspiration taking the likes of Picasso and Modigliani as they painted their groundbreaking masterpieces.
  • You’ll also learn of beloved French writers, giants of the Paris literary scene little known outside of France,  such as Aristide Bruant, cabaret comedian and singer who captured the imagination of Toulouse Lautrec, or Gerard de Nerval, poet with his pet lobster that he walked like a dog on a leash! Then again there was Pierre Mac Orlan with his sharp eye on the area’s notorious riffraff.  And while you absorb the atmosphere and adventure of days gone by, you’ll be gaining insight into how vibrant, diverse Montmartre shaped the creativity of the inhabitants that made it  famous.
  • But the tour is not just a list of names of yesteryear, for this neighborhood’s culture is alive and well. With your guide’s introductions, the warmth and authenticity of today’s locals will give you a firsthand feel for why the place is still so special.
