  • Our Knowledgeable and Enthusiastic Guides Will Share Bordeaux’s Transformation with You
  • Welcome to Bordeaux! Come and discover one of the most fascinating French towns on this full day tour. Coined the “Sleeping Beauty”, the city has undergone a radical transformation leading it to be declared UNESCO World Heritage in 2007.
  • Begin your tour in Quinconces Square
  • Your first stop, located just a few minutes away, will certainly be the Place des Quinconces, the most emblematic square of the town and one of the largest squares in Europe. Formerly the location of Château Trompette, built next to the Garonne River, this fortress was part of a larger military architectural ensemble that was built when France finally recovered Bordeaux from the English. The square also features the Monument to the Girondins as well as huge statues of Montesquieu and Montaigne.
  • Discover the Golden Triangle of Bordeaux
  • Your walking tour of Bordeaux will then move on to the heart of the City nicknamed the ‘Golden Triangle’. Defined by three Boulevards, including high-end Cours de l’Intendance, the heart of Bordeaux is without a doubt Place de la Comédie. This large square features the Grand Hotel de Bordeaux to one side and the Grand Théâtre on the other. This masterpiece of 18th-century architecture was designed by Victor Louis who also designed Comédie Française in Paris.
  • Bordeaux River Front & famous Landmarks
  • Other highlights of this private tour include the Place de la Bourse (Stock Exchange) located next to the River where the now famous water mirror lies. More Big-ticket attractions and sights include the Cathedral of St Andrew, Pey Berland square and tower as well as the bustling Rue Sainte Catherine, one of the longest shopping streets of Europe. After the visit, enjoy some free time for lunch (at own expense). Don't hesitate to ask your guide for recommendations.
  • Lunch and wine tasting in Bordeaux
  • After your morning visit, you will have time to explore Bordeaux on your own. You can stroll through the narrow medieval streets of the city centre into the shopping district. Before lunch, why not stop in one of the numerous wine bars of Bordeaux to taste the local wines. Your guide will certainly make recommendations where it will be possible for you taste Saint Emilion, Medoc, Pessa-Léognan or Sauternes wines.
  • For lunch, Bordeaux is home to a very large number of small, family owned, restaurants that serve traditional south western France cuisine. Again, dont hesitate to speak with your guide who will be happy to make suggestions according to your wishes.
  • After your free time and lunch, it will be time to make your way back to Le Verdon Cruis port where will drop you off at the ship.

  • Discover the Magic of Medoc Wine
  • After lunch, meet your tour guide and begin to make your way back to the Ship. Head towards the Medoc wine producing region. The Medoc area covers approximately 5,700 hectares of declared vineyards, annually producing on average 300,000 hectoliters of wine.
  • Of the grape varieties permitted, 50% of the viticultural area is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and to a lesser extent Petit Verdot and Malbec. Also allowed within the AOC regulations are the varieties Cabernet Franc and Carménère.
  • Follow the Castle road, lined by prestigious wineries
  • As you leave, reach the famous castle road along which many of the Grands Crus Classés wineries are located. As you reach the Medoc vineyards, we will take you to a carefully selected wine estate that is ranked as Grand Cru, classified growth Château or cru bourgeois.
  • At the winery, you will be introduced to the history and wine making facilities of the domains. You will also have the opportunity to understand the wine making process. Then it will be time to participate in a commented wine tasting session of the local wines.
  • With Ophorus, rest assured that your afternoon Medoc vineyard tour will be everything you imagined. All our drivers are fully accredited guides, meaning you’ll get double the expertise on this great Medoc tour.
  • Every one of our expert guides holds at least the WSET level 2 certification in wines and spirits, and they take great pride in their region and craft. You’ll learn how to judge a wine with all the senses, using your eyes, nose, tongue, and memory. These licensed guides are not only wine connoisseurs, they’re also authorities on the local area, ready to share a wealth of information about the stunning Bordeaux region.
  • Taste delicious wines
  • Medoc wines produce wonderfully perfumed yet very intense french wines. Margaux wines have a distinctive fragrant taste, attributed to the high gravel content of the soil in these vineyards. The soil’s excellent drainage means the plants need to root down further to find moisture, making them particularly strong, and bringing up the flavors of the deeper earth.
  • The Haut Medoc appellation is vast, with almost 400 different wine producers operating there, the different wineries produce wine that have a wide variety of textures and flavors. If time permits, your guide will try and organise a stop at Chateau Margaux for photo opportunities.
  • Saint Julien wines are known to be tannic, powerful and are usually coined as being quite masculine types of wines while the wines produced in Pauillac are generally rich, full bodied and stern.
  • After the winery tour, we will drop you off at Le Verdon Port of Call.
