Full Day Royal Palace and Korean Folk Village Tour

Summary

After morning pickup from your hotel, travel in a climate-controlled minivan to your first destination, Jogyesa Temple. Learn about Zen Buddhism in Korea at the important temple, which features large golden Buddha statues and colorful decorations. Continue to the Blue House, the official residence of the President of the Republic of Korea, and stop in Blue House Square. From the exterior, view the Blue House and the backdrop of Mt. Bukak.  Move on to Gwanghwamun Gate to observe the changing of the royal guards ceremony. Then tour Gyeongbokgung palace, aka the northern palace, and understand how the royal families and their court attendants spent their days there.  Next up, discover how people lived a few centuries ago at the National Folk Museum of Korea. See examples of daily life from the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392) to the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910).  After the palace tour, stop by a ginseng center, then go to a local restaurant for lunch. Afterward, drive one hour south of the city to reach the Korean Folk Village, a living museum that shows daily life over the course of several centuries. Watch artisans such as potters, weavers, and blacksmiths practice their trades. Visit some of the 270 traditional houses, which range from regular citizens' houses to traditional schools, hospitals, and government offices. The site has been used for filming historical-themed Korean dramas.  Your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel at the end of the afteroon. Please note: On Tuesdays Gyeongbokgung Palace and the National Folklore museum are closed. Instead, the tour visits Deoksugung Palace and the Presidential Blue House Museum.
