Ah, Henry VIII. The Tudor king, most famous for his tumultuous love life. Well, this was his favourite palace and more re-coupling's took place here than in the Love Island Villa.
Upon moving in, Henry VIII got to work on renovating Hampton Court Palace to be more attuned to his extravagant taste. The Great Hall is a prime example of that – take one step inside and you’ll be sure it was built to impress. But nothing shows off that good old Tudor opulence like the Chapel Royal. Just take a look up at the vaulted ceiling.
The excess didn’t stop at interiors (or marriages) either, feasts were a staple of the King’s social calendar. Explore the Hampton Court Kitchens where over 200 cooks would work to keep up with the demand.
If the weather’s good, the gardens are well worth exploring. There are over 60 acres of formal gardens including a 300-year-old maze. It takes most people around 20 minutes to reach the centre, if you fancy trying to beat the average.
