Dry Land Dog Sledding: Cart Style

Summary

Alaska is known for dog sled adventures during our snowy winter! Would you love to take a dog sled ride, but you’re visiting during Fall? Salmon Berry has a solution: our fall dog cart tour at the homestead of four-time Iditarod Champion Dallas Seavey!  This educational and fun tour departs from Anchorage before making the fully-guided drive north to dog sled country. Our first stop is in Wasilla where we’ll visit the Iditarod Race Headquarters to learn more about The Last Great Race. Passing through Willow to the quaint town of Talkeetna for a delicious lunch at the historic Talkeetna Roadhouse, a 100-year-old property that has been featured on the Travel Channel and Food Network for their world-famous eats and treats!  After lunch, we’ll drive to Dallas Seavey Racing. At the kennel you’ll have the opportunity to take your photo with Iditarod-winning Alaskan huskies and cuddle adorable puppies! Listen to stories from the trail while the dogs are harnessed into the custom wheeled dog cart.  Each two guests will share a wheeled dog cart and dog team of Alaskan Huskies for the 6 mile drive your own mini expedition! Follow your musher guide into the groomed dog sled trails of Talkeetna’s boreal forest, showcasing its beautiful autumn colors! For the first half of your ride, you will guide your four-legged team through the birch trees. Keep an eye out and listen for local wildlife! Once you reach an opening in the forest, a photo stop is made during your unforgettable fall ride to pose with the canine athletes in front of the enchanting backdrop. Take in the brisk air and alternate from standing to riding on the passenger bench! The final half of mushing will duplicate the Iditarod trail where you will visit replica of official Iditarod checkpoints and other highlights of “The Last Great Race on Earth” until you cross the burled arch Finish Line! During the total 6 miles, there will be a lead musher guiding and tail musher following for quality, safety, and comfort during your mush - both guiding the dogs and riding in the cart! Following your homestead tour,  you'll either be dropped off at your Talkeetna overnight  accommodation or you’ll return to Anchorage with closing commentary from your guide. Complimentary snacks and bottled glacier wellness water are available in the sprinter van.  Special Note: this tour is available with pick up in Talkeetna and drop off in Anchorage, if desired. HOTEL PICKUP POLICY: For a quality experience, we limit all of our tours to a maximum of three (3) hotel pickups per departure. If your hotel is not available, the departure point is the Salmon Berry Tours office, across from the Log Cabin Visitors Center downtown.  Our guest lounge offers complimentary beverages, and restrooms are available.
