Christ the King - Lisbon - 3 Hour Electric Bike Tour

Summary Description

Greet your guide and group at Rua de Boavista in central Lisbon and get acquainted with your electric bike. Practice riding your state-of-the-art motorized cycle and relish how little energy riding the bike requires.

Set off past the popular bars of Pink Street towards Ribeira das Naus — former shipyards recently transformed into an attractive waterfront promenade. Arrive at the docks and take a distinctive orange cacilheiro (Portuguese ferry) across the Tagus River.

Back on dry land, you’ll cycle towards the dramatic silhouette of Cristo Rei, an attention-grabbing statue based on Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer. Choose to ascend to the statue on the Boca do Vento elevator, or use your electric bike to effortlessly cycle up the hill.

Stop to purchase a coffee in the gardens of Casa da Cerca and then climb to the top of Cristo Rei.  Beneath the outstretched arms of Christ, you’ll gaze at panoramic vistas of Lisbon, the 25th of April Bridge and the Atlantic Ocean.

Then, jump back onto your bike and cycle downhill to the historic Alfama neighborhood — replete with cobbled streets and ancient monuments. Get a glimpse into the Middle Ages in the archeological museum at Carmo Convent before returning to your original departure point and bidding your guide farewell.

Description

Did you know that Lisbon is even more beautiful when seen from the Tagus River south bank? Experience Lisbon from a different perspective, from the river level to the 133 meter-high (436 ft) Sanctuary of Christ the King.

The Tagus river crossing is on Lisbon’s iconic boat, the Cacilheiro.

On the south bank, we ride our electric bikes along the river, at our own pace, surrounded by tranquility.

The Sanctuary of Christ the King or “Cristo Rei” is high above us, but with electric bikes we don’t even feel the steepness.

Our first stop is at Casa da Cerca – Center for Contemporary Art, for coffee and a visit to the house and its beautiful garden.

When in the Sanctuary, the view becomes even more amazing, with the huge Tagus River, the bridges, the colorful houses, the green Monsanto Forest and much more. You would want to lose yourself in the landscape.

The return is downhill, yet with a stop at the pleasant pedestrian street Cândido dos Reis.

The ferry awaits us back to Lisbon.
