Description

The Gothic Quarter is a jewel in Barcelona's crown and the oldest part of the city. It was built on the remains of the Roman colony of Barcino and still keeps some remains of the Roman Empire. For some long centuries, the city was not permitted to go beyond the city wall and the whole city life was led between these narrow streets.
Walking them is like wandering the Labyrinth - you never know what to expect after the next turn: is it going to be another shady street, a square full of cute eateries or a massive medieval church?
This self-guided city walking tour will introduce you to the history of Barcelona starting with the Carthaginians and till modern times. You will reveal some of the secrets, find some "wandering" buildings, explore the Jewish quarter and peek into an ancient synagogue.
There is a palace in the Gothic Quarter, where Christopher Columbus met the queen of Spain and a square that still preserves the remains of a bomb that killed 42 people (most of them, children) during the Spanish Civil War. There is a legend of a poisoned rose to be told and a story of eternal love to be shared...

Among the landmarks that you will see are:

• La Rambla • La Boqueria Market • Plaça de Catalunya • Monument to Colom • Cathedral of Barcelona • Palau Guell • Grand Royal Palace • Royal Square • Sant Felip Neri Square and some more
