Arab Cooking Workshop and Market Tour from Arraba

Summary

You will experience an integral part of local culture: the middle-eastern custom of hachnasat orchim; warmly welcoming guests into the homes of local villagers. After introductions over tea and coffee we continue with approximately 2 hours of hands-on preparation of traditional Galilean dishes. The menu changes seasonally. Once we have finished preparing the delicacies, we all sit and enjoy our feast. When we've finished eating all the great food we have prepared, we'll say farewell to our host and head off to the local market, where we'll see the raw products that we used for cooking in the workshop and much more. If we want, we can even buy some things to take home with us. The Arrabeh market is the largest in the Galilee. Jews, Muslims, Druze and Christians all shop together, because the quality here is unequalled. You will see first hand the harmony of living in the Galilee. You'll finish having had a great day out and having seen a slice of Israel that you would not have otherwise had the opportunity to see and come out with a different understanding of the complexities of the middle east. The program runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which are the days that the market is open.

Oh, and let's not forget…it's a whole lot of fun!!!We have Druze, Moslem and Christian hosts, all of whom exemplify the middle-eastern custom of hachnasat orchim; warmly welcoming guests into their homes. The day starts (after tea and coffee, of course) with approximately 3 hours of hands-on preparation of traditional dishes. In the winter and spring, it is many wild greens, picked fresh from the fields. Late spring and summer, frikki (smoked green wheat) is on the menu. The menu changes seasonally, in keeping with the cycle of life in the Galilee. Once we have finished preparing the delicacies, we all sit and enjoy our feast. Culinary tourism is not just about good eating. That you can do at home. It's about exploring foreign cultures through taste, smell and experience.
