Carmel-by-the-Sea: A Self-Guided Audio Tour Off the Beaten Path
This self-guided walking audio tour explores off-the-beaten-path areas of Carmel-by-the-Sea. You will walk through Carmel’s quiet and charming northwest side of town, which is home to artist Mary Austin’s Rose Cottage. Discover the hidden Jane Powers Walkway, named after an early Carmelite artist, and hear her fascinating story.
You will visit Carmel’s historic Pine Inn where you might decide to visit the bar for a cocktail or a snack. There will be the opportunity to see First Murphy House, a museum of early Carmel history. Operating hours are Tuesday – Thursday 12pm to 3pm.
Then the tour takes you to the north end of Carmel Beach where you will see the gorgeous Pebble Beach Golf Links. The tour passes by the early homes of Robinson and Una Jeffers where you will hear the story of this famous Carmel couple.

Start Location: Lincoln St, Lincoln St, Carmel-by-the-Sea
Start Location Direction: Begin your tour from the red-brick courtyard of the Pine Inn. You will find this midway down the west side of Lincoln Street between Ocean Avenue and 6th Avenue. Enter the courtyard under the wrought iron arch that says Pine Inn. This is between Windy Oaks wine room and Fjorn Scandinavian on the right and Fourtane Jewelry on the left. In the courtyard you will find a glass gazebo and the Panetteria Bakery. Park your car as close as possible to the Pine Inn. Most spots on Ocean Avenue have two hour limits; where as parking off Ocean Avenue in the residential areas will not be limited. Pay attention to all parking signs. Desire a cup of coffee to take with you on your walk? You may find this and other beverages or quick snacks at the Panetteria bakery which is just inside the gazebo, in the Pine Inn Courtyard. The sign and awning in the courtyard over the gazebo say Il Fornaio. There is also a public restroom located in the Il Fornaio restaurant which is attached to the Panetteria.
