The Piazza Stesicoro is the perfect place to start a walking tour of Catania. From here, you can easily reach many of the top city highlights on your two-hour walk with a private guide. You'll stroll the city and see the remains of an impressive Roman Theater. Earthquakes were frequent in Catania’s history, especially being so near a volcano, so the architecture is in the newer Baroque style, unlike other major Italian cities.

You'll make your way down the Via Etnea towards Piazza Università where the city’s famed university is located. Once you ascend the Alessi Staircase up to Via dei Crociferi you may recognize your surroundings from the celebrated Godfather films as a few scenes were filmed here.

Next, it’s on to San Francesco Square, where you’ll hear about the square's church and learn about the Cardinal Dusmet monument from WWII in the center. Lastly, your tour ends in Piazza Duomo, a place locals love to congregate to eat and drink, and from here you can choose to visit the historic city hall or the interior of the Cathedral.
