Your full-day mountain escape begins with morning pickup at your Krakow hotel and a scenic 2-hour drive to the foothills of the Tatra Mountains. Stop first in the lovely village of Chocholow, known for its well preserved cabins showcasing the region's traditional wooden architecture. Continue on for another 20 minutes to Krzeptowki, home to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima that commemorates an assassination attempt of Pope John Paul II in the 1980s.
After arriving in Zakopane, visit the historic Peksowy Brzyzek cemetery to pay tribute at the graves of local World War II resistance heroes and other notable residents. Then, enjoy some free time to shop, dine (own expense), and people watch on Krupowki Street, known throughout Poland for its vibrant atmosphere. After lunch, ride the funicular to the top of Gubalowka Hill for panoramic views of the Tatra Mountains.
On the way back to Kraków, stop in the village of Jaszczurowka to see the celebrated Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, one of the region's finest examples of traditional Polish wooden architecture. The tour finishes with drop-off back at your hotel around 5 pm.
