Next, return to Xian and visit its City Walls, built over 600 years ago during the Ming dynasty. Standing 39 feet (12 meters) high and running 8.5 miles (14 kilometers) around old Xian, these imperious fortifications are the best-preserved in China, and feature wide ramparts, watchtowers, corner towers, gate towers, and parapets. The ramparts reach 46 feet (14 meters) wide in places. Take a stroll on the walkway, admiring the panoramas over old and modern Xian, and then conclude your tour with a hotel drop-off.
