Weak. Tourist trap.
I'm not one to speak ill of museums, but this specific one is VERY WEAK. A big tourist trap. They do the biggest promotion that they have works by Basquiat and Hooper, their own little shop has the largest number of products based on these two painters. When they get there, they only have 3 (THREE) Hoopers and 1 (ONE) Basquiat. The other exhibitions are good and pleasant, but I went there to see Hooper and Basquiat and paid 30 dollars to see 4 works.
Interesting art in a great building
The museum building is beautiful, airy, with amazing views of Hudson. Even elevators are distinct, cave like and artsy. Exhibits are roomy and there are benches to sit and enjoy. There is some great art, as well as some interesting, provocative and unusual pieces and concepts. Definitely worth a visit, would need about 1.5-2 hours for highlights. Enjoyed the 8th floor the most with Edward Hopper and Georgia O’Keefe. One of the Biennale exhibits: pandemonium installation, also caught my eye. The exhibit of Andy Warhol Polaroids was quite unique as well. Lots of tours and many activities in the museum.
There Are Some Interesting Paintings
We happened to visit it on the 2nd Sunday, a free day. The exhibit arrangement is a bit disorganized, and the day we visited, there was only one Edward Hopper on display. But there are 3 Akira Ikezoe paintings that are fascinating the view and digest. After the museum, we walked the High Line Park, with its beginning just outside the museum. A very nice experience.

A fine collection of art in a fantastic neighborhood. The museum is beautiful and offers a terrific outdoor area which offers tremendous views of the area, very much adding to your experience. The staff we interacted with were professional and helpful.
Monday Afternoon Visit
Stopped in for a visit with my wife who celebrated her birthday and wanted to see works by Andy Warhol and Edward Hopper. Some other pieces on the lower floor was sorta out of place but its art. There was one exhibit on the ground floor around the corner from the staircase that was quite intense. See photo on black/red and green ball suspended from ceiling.
